Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a diverse, dynamic, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency. We strive to provide quality, wholistic health services by sharing and promoting traditional and western health practices to enable people to live in a more balanced state of well-being. SOAHAC provides services to Indigenous people including those who live on and off reserve, status, non-status, Inuit, and Metis within the Southwest, Waterloo Wellington and Erie St Clair regions. SOAHAC has a mandate of ensuring that health services are accessible, of high quality, and are culturally appropriate. It is SOAHAC's objective to build health care capacity within Indigenous communities.
We are currently seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Human Resources Generalist to join our collaborative HR team. Reporting to the HR Manager, this role plays a key part in delivering timely, high-quality HR services to managers and staff across multiple sites.
The HR Generalist will support full-spectrum HR functions--including recruitment, employee relations, policy and compliance, training support, and HRIS oversight--ensuring alignment with SOAHAC's organizational goals, legislative requirements, and values of cultural safety and equity. This position is ideal for a relationship-driven HR professional who is passionate about service excellence, operational efficiency, and Indigenous health and wellness.
Responsibilities:
Recruitment & Onboarding
Lead full-cycle recruitment for positions within your assigned portfolio, including job postings, screening, interviews, references, and offers
Coordinate and oversee new employee onboarding, ensuring completion of all documentation and welcoming experience
Support diversity- and equity-informed hiring processes in alignment with organizational policy
Collaborate with the HR Administrator to track applicant data and maintain recruitment records
Employee Relations & Support
Act as a first point of contact for employee questions, manager support, and general inquiries
Provide day-to-day guidance on HR policies, performance management, and workplace practices
Support the HR Manager with resolution of employee relations issues, including minor workplace conflicts and informal investigations
Foster positive workplace relationships and promote a culturally safe, inclusive work environment
HR Administration & Compliance
Ensure personnel records are accurate, confidential, and in compliance with legal and accreditation standards
Track and support employee leaves, entitlements, and documentation (e.g., WSIB claims, medical documentation, vacation balances)
Support payroll processes by ensuring HR data related to hours, leaves, and entitlements is accurate and submitted on time
Work closely with the HR Administrator to ensure all HR documents are organized, filed, and retained appropriately
HRIS & Data Management
Oversee employee data entry, maintenance, and reporting within the HRIS
Assist with the configuration and rollout of new HRIS modules and workflows
Provide system training and support to end-users, ensuring accuracy and consistency of information
Collaborate with the HR Manager to generate reports for leadership and compliance needs
Training, Wellness & Engagement
Support the delivery of employee training and development sessions
Contribute to wellness and engagement initiatives, including staff orientation, recognition programs, and cultural learning opportunities
Collaborate with Joint Health and Safety Committees and promote workplace safety
Encourage participation in wellness programming, and support initiatives that align with SOAHAC's vision for a healthy workplace
Policy & Organizational Support
Assist with drafting and updating HR policies, procedures, and process documents
Stay informed on changes in employment legislation and contribute to compliance reviews
Ensure all HR activities are delivered in alignment with Indigenous cultural safety, SOAHAC values, and human rights legislation
Requirements:
A post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or Psychology, or a combination of an undergraduate degree and a diploma in Human Resources
Minimum 3 years of HR experience; Indigenous, healthcare, or non-profit experience preferred
CHRP designation or working toward certification is preferred
Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, HR best practices, and cultural safety principles
Experience with HRIS systems (Dayforce) and reporting; HRIS implementation and module configuration experience is an asset
Certification or experience in workplace investigations is an asset
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
Proactive and self-directed with a service-oriented approach
Ability to travel within London and to other regional SOAHAC sites as required
Willingness to participate in Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, ongoing teachings, and ceremonies
Demonstrated discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism in all interactions
Additional Requirements
Clear and current police background check (required as a condition of employment)
Valid Ontario Driver's "G" license, access to reliable vehicle, and proof of auto insurance
Proof of up-to-date immunization records in accordance with organizational policy
