Reports To: Manager, Human Resources

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Ergonomics and Safe Handling Advisor will be responsible for the development, implementation and facilitation of a sustainable Ergonomics and Safe Transfer Program, using ergonomics principles to aid in the reduction of musculoskeletal injuries sustained by health care workers. This position will analyze and identify training needs, provide consulting support to master trainers, and direct support to employees as required. This role will be paramount in processing the culture of safety by optimizing the skills of the organization.

The position entails but is not limited to the following:
General:

  • Design, implement and maintain an ergonomics safe patient transfer program to be used by all health care professionals;
  • Become a master trainer in the ergonomics and safe patient transfer program;
  • Train instructors in the ergonomics and safe patient transfer program;
  • Create and maintain a catalog of equipment used by departments, along with their instructions and safe use materials for employee reference;
  • Serve as a lead resource when implementing new transfer equipment;
  • Develop teaching materials for face-to-face and/or distance training;
  • Implement a comprehensive evaluation process to ensure quality and consistency;
  • Provide guidance to managers and employees on musculoskeletal risk elimination or minimization;
  • Attend committee meetings as requested by their immediate supervisor or delegate;
  • Communicate, at the request of the immediate superior, with resource persons, speakers or instructors for training and development programs;
  • Design and maintain a strong program evaluation by seeking shareholder and participant feedback;
  • Act as a resource person in training and development for managers and staff.
As the ideal candidate for this position, you:

Education & Experience:
  • Possess a post-secondary education with relevant education in a health care discipline;
  • Basic understanding of workplace ergonomics principles;
  • Varied experience in an adult education environment;
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered;
  • Additional training in Health and Safety considered an asset;
  • Ability to coordinate training projects remotely;
  • Proficiency in use of MS Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint) email and Intranet;
  • Excellent ability to communicate and to facilitate training sessions, including constructive remediation on site and post training if necessary;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member;
  • Physical ability to perform assigned duties such as demonstrating safe patient handling techniques;
  • Good previous work history (performance and attendance);
  • Adherence to professional ethics principles, to the Network\'s management philosophy and organizational values;
  • Compliance with the rules of confidentiality established by the Health Network.
