Street Haven is a dynamic women's multi-service agency that provides shelter, supportive housing, training supports, and addictions therapy to vulnerable women in Toronto. We were established in 1965 and serve 1500 individuals annually. We have seen an increasing complexity of mental health and addiction needs among our clients. We are seeking a qualified and passionate candidate to take on this temporary role who can be part of our high performing team and provide comprehensive support to improve the lives of our clients.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, the HR Assistant will support Street Haven's human resources function by coordinating recruitment activities and handling general HR administrative tasks. This role works directly with the Human Resources Generalist to ensure effective delivery of HR services across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition
Coordinate full-cycle recruitment processes including job postings, resume screening, and interview scheduling
Maintain applicant tracking system and candidate communications
Conduct pre-employment reference checks
Assist with new hire onboarding and orientation
Support recruitment events and initiatives to attract diverse candidates
Maintain relationships with employment agencies and job boards
HR Administration
Process employee documentation and maintain personnel files
Assist with benefits administration and enrollment
Respond to basic HR inquiries from staff
Maintain HR policies and procedures documentation
Assist with employee relations issues as directed
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
Minimum of 2 years experience in HR or recruitment role preferred
Knowledge of relevant employment legislation and HR best practices
Experience with HRIS and ATS systems an asset
Non-profit experience considered an advantage
Skills & Competencies
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
