HIRING BONUS: total amount of $1,000*

  • $500 after completion of Three Months of employment (90 days)
  • $500 after One Year of continuous employment (365 days)
  • Note: New Hires referred by current employees of Tree Island will not be eligible for the Hiring Bonus.

POSITION SUMMARY
The HR Assistant is responsible for providing HR administrative, project and advisory activities for the Canadian business under the direction of the HR Generalist in the development, coordination and application of HR processes, policies and procedures. The HR Assistant will support in the administration of Recruitment, Performance, Engagement, and HRIS systems. The HR Assistant will be located in Richmond, BC; however, will also provide HR administrative support to the Calgary location. Travel may be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining HR programs and processes in the areas of Recruitment, Performance Management, HR policies, Employee Engagement, and Employee & Labour Relations.
  • Lead the external recruitment process for hourly employees, including drafting job descriptions and posting job vacancies, short-listing qualified candidates, conducting phone screens, arranging interviews, and conducting reference checks.
  • Support the internal recruitment process by posting plant job opportunities and preparing the award letters under the provisions of the Collective Agreements.
  • Provide onboarding for new employees, including the facilitation of new hire orientation.
  • Assist in regular HR reporting and metrics by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data to identify trends.
  • Maintain confidential and sensitive information.
  • Assist with planning and execution of Employee Engagement activities.
  • Participate in performance management discussions, prepare disciplinary letters as required, and maintain employee disciplinary files.
  • Assist the HR Generalist in providing advice to Employees, Supervisors and Managers regarding Company policies, the interpretation of Collective Agreements and applicable legislation.
  • Miscellaneous assignments that contribute to the goals and objectives of the Human Resources Departments.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 1-year experience working in a human resources capacity.
  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources, or equivalent experience is required.
  • Experience in recruitment, performance management and employee relations is required and previous experience in a unionized environment is a definite asset.
  • Excellent business communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to prioritize and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong ethics in regards to privacy, confidentiality and protecting the interests of the Company.
  • High proficiency in Windows, MS Word, Excel and Outlook is a must.
  • Hands-on individual who takes ownership and works well as part of a multi-location team.
