Position Summary
As the sole HR professional in the organization, the
Human Resources Generalist
will be responsible for overseeing all HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, payroll, compliance, policy development, performance management, and HR strategy. This is a hands-on, high-impact role ideal for someone who enjoys variety and autonomy.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll & HR Administration
Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with federal and provincial legislation
Maintain employee records in the HRIS/payroll system
Track hours, vacation, leaves of absence, and other entitlements
Coordinate year-end reporting (e.g., T4s, ROEs)
Recruitment & Onboarding
Manage full-cycle recruitment: job postings, screening, interviews, offers, and background checks
Facilitate onboarding and orientation for new hires
Employee Relations
Act as the main point of contact for employee concerns, questions, and conflict resolution
Support a respectful and inclusive work culture
Policy & Compliance
Develop, update, and enforce HR policies and procedures
Ensure compliance with all applicable employment legislation (WorkSafe, ESA, Human Rights, etc.)
Maintain and update the employee handbook
Performance & Development
Assist in the development and implementation of training programs for staff.
Support managers with performance review processes
Help coordinate training and development initiatives
Strategic HR Support
Advise leadership on HR best practices and compliance
Monitor HR trends and metrics to support business decision-making
Qualifications
2+ years of experience in a generalist HR role, including payroll processing
Solid understanding of payroll systems and employment standards
Strong organizational and time-management skills with excellent attention to detail
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Experience with HRIS and payroll platforms -ADP is an asset
CHRP or CPHR designation (or in progress) is considered a plus
