NAT (the Network for Applied Technology, formerly NeurAlbertaTech) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting education, collaboration and innovation in biosensing technology. Our focus is on helping people use emerging technology to solve problems in their communities.
Founded by students in 2019, NAT has engaged thousands of youth and early-career professionals through its programs and strategic partnerships across Canada and beyond.
Position Overview
The HR Associate will support HR systems that help NAT scale effectively and equitably. This role focuses on improving how we recruit, onboard, develop, and engage team members. The position involves improving internal processes, supporting volunteer and staff development, and helping teams work more effectively. It is ideal for someone interested in applying creative, strategic thinking to help build the internal foundation of a fast-moving nonprofit.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Development
Design and implement training programs for staff and volunteers on leadership, communication, project management, and team collaboration.
Develop and maintain onboarding guides, learning modules, and resources tailored to various roles.
Facilitate regular development sessions (virtual or in-person) to build confidence and shared practices across the team.
Evaluate training outcomes and recommend improvements to support individual and team growth.
Recruitment & Onboarding
Support volunteer recruitment efforts, from drafting job postings to supporting interview coordination.
Create and maintain systems that make onboarding consistent and engaging for all new team members.
Gather feedback to improve the onboarding experience and overall team integration.
Team Operations & Culture
Support tools and processes that promote collaboration, clarity, and autonomy.
Facilitate feedback and reflection opportunities to help teams work better together.
Contribute to internal team rituals that build cohesion and support wellness.
Policy & Systems Development
Maintain internal records, role descriptions, and training trackers.
Draft or revise HR policies to align with NAT's values and structure.
Help build documentation and processes that scale with the organization.
Equity & Inclusion
Integrate inclusive practices into all training and HR processes.
Help ensure diverse perspectives are reflected in leadership and decision-making.
Collaborate with other teams to improve accessibility across NAT programs.

Qualifications
Required
Experience leading or training others in a team, club, workplace, or volunteer context
Interest in organizational development, HR, or nonprofit leadership
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment
Comfort building digital resources or guides for teams
Preferred
Previous experience with recruitment, onboarding, training, and team coordination
Understanding of inclusive hiring practices and equity-focused frameworks
Working Conditions
This is a hybrid role based in Edmonton, with flexible working hours. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support special events.
