Under supervision of the Director, Human Resources, Operations and Real Estate Partnerships (OREP) and working closely with the HR Consultants, the incumbent is responsible for developing a comprehensive recruitment program for OREP clients and for providing recruitment expertise and a range of human resource services directly to clients and in support of the overall client portfolio.
The HR Advisor provides services in such areas as: recruitment, job evaluation, salary administration, employee orientation, performance management, labour relations, re-organizations and layoffs, employment practices and legislation and the interpretation and application of staff policies and collective agreements referring more complex issues to either the Director or other staff in the office. Under general direction the incumbent will work closely with the Director on special projects and initiatives including organizational change, employee communications, HR reporting etc., and will provide back up for benefit administration.
The HR Advisor is an integral part of the OREP Human Resources Team and is expected to maintain a high standard of professionalism, striving to ensure timely, quality results for all clients while maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of relevant University policies, collective agreements and government legislation.
Qualifications Required
EDUCATION:
University degree in a relevant field of study; completion of (or working towards) Certificate in Human Resource Management (CHRP), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three (3) years' experience working in a Human Resources department with experience in recruitment, job evaluation collective agreements and HR policy interpretation and application. Knowledge of and experience using an on-line recruitment system and experience in sourcing candidates essential, preferably experience with using social media recruitment tools
SKILLS:
Proficient computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Power point); demonstrated experience working with databases and/or HRIS; knowledge of legislation relevant to employment practices.

Superior oral and written communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated proactive and effective client service orientation. Demonstrated creativity, flexibility, initiative and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment and to successfully manage multiple and conflicting priorities with tight deadlines. Demonstrated analytical skills. Awareness of and sensitivity to issues of equity and diversity. Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive issues with tact, diplomacy and compassion.
