The Halton Housing Help Landlord Engagement Coordinator works directly with Halton Region and various community partners to provide coordinated landlord engagement efforts. The role aims to strengthen the cooperation and communication between landlords and tenants while supporting the development of strategies to proactively engage landlords in the rental housing continuum. This position is part of the Halton Housing Help team and reports to the Supervisor.
General Duties
Coordinate and facilitate landlord engagement efforts throughout Halton Region: Secure vacant units in the private market, and find suitable tenant matches from an existing pool of regional clients
Promote regional housing programs to landlords across Halton Region
Develop and implement landlord engagement strategies with a view to increasing safe and affordable rental housing in Halton Region.
Establish and maintain positive, on-going relations with Halton landlords.
Facilitate the improvement and maintenance of safe and affordable rental housing by: Educating and advising landlords on legislated standards and landlord rights and responsibilities
Linking landlords with funding, resources, and support services to support at risk tenancies.
Utilize a Housing First approach to provide regular housing related support to clients involved in Regional Housing Programs: Provide active and ongoing housing search support to clients
Secure, arrange, and attend viewings with clients
Provide support with completing rental applications, and advocacy to support clients to get approved for housing
Work with landlords to secure and maintain tenancies: Work together with landlords and clients to secure appropriate unit matches
Liaise regularly with landlords to support at-risk tenancies
Utilize landlord and tenant support plans to help mediate tenancy concerns.
Provide information regarding landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities
Utilize Housing First best practices to provide support to landlord within regional programs
Assist landlords to access other Community Support Agencies, access web-based and print resources.
Work with community partners to facilitate wrap-around support to tenancies within regional housing programs and to problem-solve and prevent evictions when possible.
Maintain records, reports and statistical data related to service delivery.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
Post-secondary degree (B.A., B.Sc., B.S.W.) or Approved Equivalent
Experience
2-5 years community-based experience
Skills
Administrative and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to maintain accurate and clear client records.
Communication skills (verbal and written) in order to clearly and concisely exchange information with a wide variety of contacts.
Interpersonal skills to effectively liaise and consult with landlords, clients, other team members and community contacts.
Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
Ability to problem solve and find solutions to complex housing situations.
Ability to support in meditation of landlord and tenant issues.
Knowledge
Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies including the Residential Tenancies Act
Knowledge of Housing First program and principles
Knowledge of social issues related to mental health, addictions, poverty, housing, and homelessness is an asset
Knowledge of computer-based word processing and database entry
Permanent Full Time
Starting Hourly Rate: $24.27/hour
Earliest Anticipated Start Date: August 4th 2025
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 9:00am-4:30pm
Location: Primarily working throughout Halton Region; car travel required.
