Choices for Youth Inc. (CFY) is a professional service, youth-focused, non-profit, charitable organization that creates spaces and conversations, and operates programs and social enterprises to help vulnerable youth secure stable housing, employment, and education while improving health and family stability. With a focus on prevention, intervention, and support, we help youth and young families break cycles of poverty and homelessness and transition to healthy, stable, and independent lives.

Our RallyForward Program is seeking to hire one (1) full-time, permanent Housing Team Lead.



POSITION SUMMARY




The RallyForward program is based on the Housing First philosophy and is one of four housing options offered by Choices for Youth. With sixteen units spread over six houses in the downtown St. John's area, combined with community partners and private landlords, this program provides supportive housing options, focusing on eviction prevention and intensive case management for young people within our community.



The Housing Team Lead will work in collaboration with the Program Coordinator and Team Leads to identify and secure available and appropriate private rental housing opportunities for marginalized youth while implementing solutions to housing barriers. The Housing Team Lead will be responsible for building and maintaining a landlord portfolio through relationship development while also creating an affordable housing stock for youth.



The Housing Team Lead should be an excellent mediator and highly knowledgeable about the housing market, social services, and the Residential Tenancies Act to provide advocacy between clients and landlords as well as information on tenant/landlord roles and responsibilities. Finally, this role also requires preparing and maintaining statistical data, to assist in identifying housing trends and developing strategies to navigate them.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Work as part of the RallyForward operational team to oversee CFY housing units, including but not limited too; Property management; routine repair and maintenance/coordinating third party vendors; move in and move out inspections; preparing units for move in; roommate mediation; eviction prevention and written warnings; monitoring of security cameras; rent tracking and budget planning with youth Proactively seek out new housing opportunities and resources that are not presently advertised to assist youth with housing Assess youth's financial eligibility to determine housing or financial support needs Actively work to identify barriers young people face and to support young people to build the skills required to successfully obtain and/or maintain housing. Conduct home visits to ensure health and safety of tenants In conjunction with team members, to provide in home support and develop individualized housing support plans with young people to maintain long term housing stability Obtain appropriate consents, information, and documentation to assess housing needs Advocate on behalf of young people with other service providers, maintaining collaborative working relationships Interpret and apply the Residential Tenancies Act, policies, and procedures to ensure successful tenancies Develop and maintain records, reports, and statistics necessary for program functions, evaluations, and funding Preparing regular reports on operational activities, maintenance and/or tenant concerns Perform basic maintenance; and facilitate with external service providers as needed Promote harm reduction and foster harm reduction strategies with young people Advocate on behalf of the young person in navigating the services and systems Participate in program meetings, staff education and act as a resource for other staff Assisting clients with the search for available properties and arrangement of property viewing Provide access to resources to assist youth as needed during their move into housing (such assistance may include accessing rental assistance money, furnishings and coordinating movers) Nurture existing relationships and create new collaborative partnerships with landlords and other housing providers Acting as a liaison to resolve client and landlord issues as needed Maintain a Housing Directory to include documentation of all contacts with housing providers. Provide consistent updates on housing availability Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE



Degree or diploma in Social Work, Psychology, or another related Human Services field Minimum of two years work experience in a social service field Two years' experience working in a supportive housing direct delivery service setting with young people experiencing the impacts of poverty, homelessness, violence, trauma, mental health, addictions or concurrent disorders Extensive knowledge of the non-profit sector and youth homelessness issues Comfortability working one to one in the home of young people which includes experience with pest control issues as well as animals that may be living in the home Current Standard First Aid/CPR and ASIST training Ability to search and navigate multiple media platforms to develop appropriate housing stocks Experience with Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet Software or Electronic Database Management System would be an asset Active drivers license and access to a vehicle is required A satisfactory certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check is required and must be bondable Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs as required

WORK HOURS




Regular hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday (35 hours per week). Flexibility in work hours will be required to accommodate higher work volumes and organizational requirements, including occasional and emergent need to work evenings and weekends.

COMPENSATION




The salary for this position will be $50,958.18 - $56,620.20 annually. CFY offers a competitive compensation package, including: a health and dental program, employer- matched RRSP and four weeks' vacation to qualifying employees.
