PPROGRAM: Housing and Facilities

LOCATION: Kamloops, BC

STATUS: Full-Time

HOURS of WORK: 35 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday. Generally, daytime schedule, with flexible hours to meet the needs of the clients and the program.

REPORTS TO: Manager of Housing and Tenant Relations

COMPENSATION: $25.95 - $29.76 per hour (Grid 10 as per collective agreement)

CLOSING DATE: Open until suitable candidate is found

ABOUT THE JOB:

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals seeking stable and affordable housing? We are looking for a Housing Navigator to provide direct support to individuals and families in navigating housing systems, securing long-term housing solutions, and connecting with community resources.

As a Housing Navigator, you will work closely with clients, service providers, and property owners to ensure individuals facing housing instability can access the support they need. This role involves advocacy, case management, and collaboration with various community partners to remove barriers to housing. Key Responsibilities:

• Assist individuals and families in securing stable, long-term housing by providing resources, referrals, and direct advocacy.
• Develop and maintain relationships with property owners and managers, and housing support agencies to facilitate housing placements.
• Educate clients about their housing rights and responsibilities, as well as available support programs.
• Work closely with community organizations, government agencies, and social service providers to ensure a coordinated approach to housing stability.
• Support clients in navigating housing applications, subsidies, and funding programs.
• Conduct assessments to determine the most appropriate housing solutions for clients.
• Provide ongoing support to ensure long-term housing success.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation to track housing outcomes and client progress.
• Perform administrative duties including maintaining records, files, and databases, scheduling meetings, handling correspondence, etc.


EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

• Diploma in human services, community support, or other related field
• Minimum one (1) year of demonstrated experience working with individuals facing poverty, housing instability, and other complex barriers
• Or a combination of relevant education and experience.


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES:

• Strong knowledge of barriers to housing stability and strategies to support individuals including knowledge of housing resources, social service systems, programs, tenancy processes, and related legislation
• Strong organizational, time management, and logistical coordination skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation and persuasive communication abilities.
• Trauma-informed practices when working with individuals facing systemic barriers.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with community partners, landlords, and funders such as BC Housing.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database management.
• Skills in crisis intervention, conflict resolution, advocacy, and problem-solving.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism


REQUIREMENTS

• Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License
• A safe driving record
• Access to a reliable vehicle with Business Use insurance with $5M liability
• Frequent travel within Kamloops and occasional travel to surrounding communities (e.g., Merritt, Chase, 100 mile House etc.)
• Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: CPR-C, Mandt-RC, SafeTalk, Privacy and Information Sharing, Anti-Bullying, and Harassment.
• Criminal record check with vulnerable sector search through the BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General is required.
• This job requires union membership with a 1.85% union due deducted from pay.
