Housekeeping Attendant

Dover House Residential Care Home - Nanaimo, BC

Full-time Position

Dover House Senior Care Home is an island owned and operated 24 bed long-term care home located in North Nanaimo. We are currently seeking a housekeeper to perform general cleaning duties around the home, while working alongside other healthcare members.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

Carries out all aspects of routine and rotation cleaning throughout the building and resident rooms, including the following: dusting, vacuuming and sweeping; washing floors, walls, windows and doors; changing and making beds; garbage removal; performs all laundry duties, terminal cleaning of rooms/suites, etc. Cleaning of resident suites, staff rooms, offices, lounges, dining room, and other areas as designated, and reports to the General Manager/Support Staff Supervisor. Cares for equipment, supplies and work areas, cleans and keeps equipment clean and safely stored; reports defective/damaged equipment and furnishings to supervisor/manager. Ensures that furniture and surroundings is arranged to provide a safe, secure and orderly environment. Participates and brings forth new ideas and partakes in Dover House's quality improvement initiatives. Able to demonstrate proper use of all equipment at all times - including, but not limited to washers and dryers, vacuum, iron, brooms, mops, ladders. Responds to tenant and building emergencies as required. Works well with others and able to be flexible with timelines given unique care needs of individual seniors.
Qualifications

High School education, one year training or experience in housekeeping and/or janitorial position. Successful completion of WHIMS education and understanding of safe use of chemicals. Must have high standard of personal hygiene and cleanliness, and attention to detail. All Vaccinations up to date including TB testing. Ability to communicate in English, with good understanding of the English languages both written and verbal. Ability to cook as asset. Previous experience with working in healthcare and with senior an asset. Understanding of aseptic techniques and procedures, with knowledge and use of universal precautions.

Ability to develop and maintain professional relationship with clients (seniors), visitors, and staff Ability to work independently and follow instructions with minimal supervision Team player. Ability to communicate well in written and oral English. Ability to demonstrate tact diplomacy, empathy and patience when working with staff and seniors. Good physical and emotional health. Excellent understanding and demonstration of proper body mechanics. Good understanding of seniors' needs and capabilities. Able to understand and apply common sense in various situations.
