is seeking a dedicated House Manager to oversee the operations and activities in a residential setting that offers transitional housing to women-identified refugee claimants in Hamilton, Ontario. This role is pivotal in providing a safe, nurturing environment for residents and assisting with their settlement.
How You Will Make an Impact
As the House Manager, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day management of the house and for providing support to residents, conducting scheduled activities, and ensuring daily living tasks are smoothly carried out. Your role extends to promoting a hospitable communal environment, providing information and resources to residents and maintaining the overall condition of the house and may include managing volunteers.
Your duties will align with the Mission and Values of the Good Shepherd Centers, requiring a leadership approach that models these principles. As a central figure in communication, you will be responsible for effectively disseminating information to assist residents, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring residents are aware of confidentiality limits.
You will play a critical role in the program, responding to crises, communicating with management for smooth operations, and providing support to women facing challenges as new immigrants. This role demands an understanding of group dynamics, accurate documentation and reporting, adherence to health and safety regulations, and a proactive approach to resident and program needs.
Additionally, you will offer residential support services, including the provision of basic needs, assisting residents in achieving their personal goals and understanding the Hamilton community. The role includes administrative tasks such as submitting work orders, liaising with maintenance, scheduling pest treatments, and communicating updates to residents.
You will also respond to emergencies, handle donations, assist with the program's day-to-day running (including cooking, cleaning, and laundry), participate in staff meetings, adhere to all policies and procedures, and engage in required training opportunities.
Observe all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
What You'll Bring to Our Team
This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of women who are newcomers, equipped with excellent leadership skills, empathy, and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
Post secondary education in social services or related field, and/or a combination of lived experience and education
Ability to address crises and problem-solve effectively and to relate to individuals and groups of different abilities and cultures in an empathetic, non-judgmental manner
Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse groups
Excellent and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
CPR/First Aid certification and WHMIS training.
Working with current computer software packages including Internet/E-mail applications
Detail oriented with a high degree of comfort working independently
Fluency in a language in addition to English
Understanding of a range of issues impacting women including settlement, homelessness, poverty, mental illness and substance use/abuse.
