What You Will Do
Reporting to the General Manager (GM), the Hotel Operations Manager undertakes various tasks to support and implement strategies, manage daily operations, and ensure the smooth functioning of departments. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the well-being of Indigenous clients by providing culturally sensitive support and assistance throughout their stay at Keskorie Boarding Home.
A Day In The Life

  • Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures for the operation of the Boarding home.
  • Participate in implementing and enforcing safety policies, identifying hazards, providing training, and fostering a safety-conscious culture.
  • Ensuring that employees work in a safe environment, follow established safety procedures, and have access to necessary safety equipment.
  • Assist GM with developing and managing the boarding home's budget, monitoring expenses, and maximizing revenue to achieve financial targets.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure the effective execution of hiring, training, and supervising hotel staff, thereby fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels for areas such as front desk, housekeeping, food and beverage, maintenance and security, to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations.
  • Manage time and attendance, as well as staff scheduling. Work closely with department heads to address challenges and develop effective solutions.
  • In consultation with GM, determine which Hotel operators to contact for alternative accommodations to cover room shortages.
  • Ensuring high levels of guest satisfaction by addressing complaints, resolving issues, and striving to exceed guest expectations.
  • Ensuring the boarding home complies with all relevant laws, regulations, contractual agreements and company policies.
  • Identify operational deficiencies and work with GM to find solutions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
  • A university degree or college diploma in hotel management or another related discipline is an asset.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of hotel or accommodation services management experience.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and a commitment to exceeding guest expectations.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, with high levels of interaction with guests, employees, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to set priorities for self and others.
  • Ability to develop and motivate staff to achieve challenging goals.
  • Due to the 24-hour operation of the Keskorie Boarding Home, the Hotel Operations Manager must be able to work long shifts that at times include late hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to spend much time on feet, multitasking, competing priorities, effectively dealing with confrontation from employees and guests and leading a culture of service excellence.
  • Familiarity with the Yellowknives Dene language, culture, and way of life is an asset.
