JOB SUMMARY:







The Homemaker functions as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team under the direction of the Director of Long-Term Care. This position provides essential home and community care services to clients, ensuring their well-being and comfort while respecting cultural values and individual needs.



Work is performed in client homes and at the Elders Eagle Lodge. The role involves potential exposure to infectious conditions, unpleasant sights, sounds, and odors. The Homemaker must be prepared to travel in varying weather conditions and may encounter stressful situations when working with clients and families in distress.

POSITION DUTIES:






Key Responsibilities




Provide homemaking and personal support services to clients as directed. Ensure proper use of body mechanics while performing all duties. Assist with mobility, transfers, and other physical support needs. Maintain client dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times. Communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members. Report concerns regarding client health or safety to appropriate personnel. Adhere to all Sagamok Anishnawbek policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and respect in all interactions.



Physical Demands




Regular lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Ability to push clients/residents in wheelchairs weighing up to 300 pounds. Prolonged standing without relief. Frequent bending, walking, pushing, pulling, holding, stretching, twisting, and turning.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:






Subject to a six (6) month probationary period. Must secure and maintain certification in Privacy and Confidentiality. Expected to use corporate resources responsibly and in accordance with organizational policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:




Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent. Minimum one (1) year of experience working with the public. Minimum one (1) year of experience working with the elderly and/or persons with disabilities. Experience in a hospital, seniors' residence, or extended care environment is considered an asset. Current certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS). Up-to-date immunization records. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends. Ability to complete repetitive tasks and perform physical work. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Willingness and ability to model healthy behaviours and lifestyle habits. Must sign and maintain an annual Oath of Confidentiality. Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to employment. Preference will be given to members and/or residents of Sagamok Anishnawbek.
