Skwl?xte Secwepemcu?ecw (SteS) is traditionally known as Skwl?x, which translates to Black Bear in Secwepemctsin, the traditional language. SteS has a unique vision and drive; the Band has not only led the way in tourism within the Shuswap, but it has also led the way in economic development. The creation of Quaaout Lodge, Talking Rock Golf, Le7ka Spa, and Little Shuswap Gas Station has helped promote Secwepemc culture, and allowed the SteS people to develop world class accommodation and leisure activities. The governance structure of SteS is unique and forward-looking, divided into four distinct sectors:
Administration-
Covering programs and services for Band members
Wellness -
Responsible for the overall health and wellness of the community
Territorial Stewardship -
Addresses title and rights issues and external government-government relations
Economic Development -
Oversees the business operations of the community and works to promote a strong, resilient economy for the community. Strong management and leadership with clear vision and an excellent team of committed employees make up the engine that drives the community forward
The Opportunity:
Under the direction of the Health Manager, the Homemaker will provide service to clients of the home and community care program, who need assistance caring for themselves due to aging, chronic illness, disability, injury and/or other inflictions. Home care may include housecleaning, laundry, meal preparation, medical transportation, and companionship as outlined in each client's plan of care and as directed by the Health Manager and/or Home Care Nurse. Home making services supplement but do not replace the care provided by families.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Grade 12 or equivalent
Previous Homemaking or Janitorial experience
Experience working with Elder or infirm persons
Health field experience an asset
Homemaker Training or equivalent
Up to date First Aid and CPR certification
Foodsafe Certification
Valid Class 5 driver's license, own reliable transportation, and the ability to provide a clear drivers abstract
Ability to provide and maintain a clear Criminal Record Check to include the Vulnerable Sector
Physically fit to perform duties
Tuberculosis test required upon hiring and annually thereafter
Ensure all clients are treated fairly with kindness, dignity and respect.
Must demonstrate tact, patience, compassion, and willingness to interact with clients, difficult clients, other family members and the general public in a culturally safe manner
Maintains ethics of health services and client confidentiality
Excellent communication skills
Ability to set and maintain healthy boundaries
Possess a positive, self-starter attitude
Ability to work independently without direct supervision
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
Services provided by the homemaker include, but are not limited to:
o Garbage removal
o Dishes
o Laundry
o Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping floors
o Medical Transportation
o Cleaning bathrooms, sink, tub & towels
o Washing inside windows
o Cleaning major appliances, fridge, stove, dusting
o Meal preparation
Keep the Health Manager and Home Care Nurse informed regarding client progress, noting client improvement or deterioration of ability to perform daily tasks
Inform Health Manager and Home Care Nurse of any obvious changes in client's health
Maintains confidentiality of client in relation to anything discussed in the home.
Contribute to the client's independence and their ability to remain in their homes
Support with developed programs such as elder groups, fall prevention and health promotion
