Apply now and start your journey with us!About the Role:Reporting to the Manager, Legislative Services/Clerk, the Heritage Summer Student will assist the Clerk's Division in supporting the workplan of the Municipal Heritage Committee. This position will conduct research, create heritage and tourism materials, populate the heritage database, and catalogue Town archives and Municipal record. This position will be responsible for ensuring valuable resources are ready and available for decision making and assisting in preparing heritage tourism assets.Job Responsibilities:

  • Update heritage tourism materials for the urban and rural areas of the Town of Saugeen Shores.
  • Develop standardized templates for the entry of heritage information.
  • Develop resources for driving, cycling, walking, or virtual tours of varying lengths, focus, or themes.
  • Create or expand heritage profiles for the buildings and properties on the Heritage Register and Designated Properties List.
  • Prepare profiles of significant natural heritage and cultural features of the Town.
  • Review and catalogue Town archives and Municipal records deemed archival worthy.
  • Leverage opportunities for access to the archival resources through the Town or in partnership with the Bruce County Museum and Archives.
  • Assist in the review of Heritage Designation By-laws for alignment with current standards.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the corporate records management system in accordance with Town policies, procedures and industry best practices.
  • Assist with the organization, scanning, indexing, classification and storing of active and inactive paper and electronic documents and data.
  • Assist in the monitoring, retention and preparation of records for destruction in accordance with the Records Retention Policy.
Education:
  • Enrolled in post-secondary education in History, Library Studies, Education, Communications or a related field.
Experience and Knowledge:
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer programs used in communications, research and the monitoring of current events and issues.
  • Applied knowledge in all aspects of social media.
  • Applied experience in conducting research using digital and hardcopy sources, creating high quality digital scans, and writing text for images.
  • Requires a valid Class G drivers license in good standing.
  • Knowledge of the local area and its history is an asset.
  • Experience in an office environment in an asset.
  • Experience in producing digital photography and video for use on social media, promotional materials, tourism assets, and for archives/heritage database is an asset.
