. This role is intended for operators with experience on one or more types of heavy equipment used in winter construction and maintenance environments.
Successful candidates may operate
water trucks, graders, dozers, loaders, skid steers, excavators, hydrovac units, or other support equipment
, depending on experience, site needs, and operational requirements.
This position requires operators who are adaptable, safety-focused, and capable of working in
cold, remote, and fast-changing winter conditions

Alberta winter operations
(site-based)
Camp accommodations provided for out-of-town assignments

12-hour scheduled workdays
Day or night shifts depending on program requirements
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive hourly wages
based on equipment type and experience
Overtime paid after 10 hours per day or 44 hours per week
Statutory holiday pay: 9.6%

Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Operation
Safely operate assigned heavy equipment such as water trucks, graders, excavators, hydrovac units, and support equipment
Perform winter construction and maintenance activities including freeze-in, access support, grading, excavation, and site servicing
Adapt operating techniques to winter ground conditions, ice, snow, and limited daylight
Inspections & Equipment Care
Complete daily pre-use, post-use, and operational equipment inspections
Maintain cleanliness and readiness of assigned equipment
Identify and report mechanical, safety, or operational concerns promptly
Safety & Field Participation
Actively participate in hazard assessments, FLHAs, toolbox talks, and safety meetings
Identify hazards related to winter conditions, traffic, ice, and equipment interactions
Follow all company policies, client requirements, and Alberta OH&S regulations
Complete required safety and operational documentation accurately and on time
Exercise stop-work authority when conditions are unsafe
Communication & Teamwork
Communicate effectively with supervisors, dispatch, and site personnel
Coordinate activities with other operators and ground crews
Work independently while supporting overall site operations
Represent Al's Contracting professionally on all worksites
Required Qualifications
Previous experience operating
one or more types of heavy equipment
in industrial, construction, or winter environments
Ability to work outdoors in cold, remote conditions and variable weather
Strong situational awareness and decision-making skills
Valid Driver's Licence
with a clean driver's abstract (class dependent on equipment)
Valid safety certifications (required):
H2S Alive
Ground Disturbance Level 2
Standard First Aid (CPR)
CSTS 2020
Ability to successfully complete
pre-employment drug & alcohol testing
