Reporting to the Public Works Superintendent, the Heavy Equipment Operator/Labourer is responsible for operating heavy equipment safely and appropriately while performing general labor for property maintenance. The operation of heavy equipment may include trucks, dozers, graders, excavators, backhoes, compactors, and other pieces of equipment. The Heavy Equipment Operator/Labourer is responsible for regular maintenance and for ensuring equipment meets all safety regulations and internal standards. Responsible for regular maintenance of band-owned buildings and grounds, including but not limited to minor repairs of facilities, landscaping, and general cleanliness.
The Heavy Equipment Operator/Labourer is responsible for the intake of scheduling inquiries and quality of service complaints from the public courteously and respectfully.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the operation and regular maintenance of various trucks and heavy-duty equipment, adhering to all federal and provincial mandates
Drives transport to transport goods and materials, while ensuring load security
Notifies the superintendent of unsafe working conditions, mechanical defects, and accidents in a timely manner.
Performs manual labour; including but not limited to minor repairs, Painting, etc
Communicates with supervisors, operators, and clients through CB radios, telephones, and other electronic forms of communication.
Completes and submits load slips and other documentation to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE
Valid Class AZ or DZ driver's license is required
Certified heavy-duty operator
Appropriate credentials and certifications for all or any excavator, bulldozer, backhoe, grader
Minimum of 5 years experience operating heavy equipment; such as excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, graders, compactors, and dump trucks
Experience in road construction and maintenance techniques is considered a strong asset
Basic heavy-duty mechanical skills are required
Proficient in basic computer applications, including; Microsoft Outlook, Professional and strong communication skills are required
Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques
WHMIS is considered an asset
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
WORKING CONDITIONS
24/7 availability may be required
Physical ability to lift up to 100lb
Travel to off-site locations as required
Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
Hazards associated with the trade
Work is primarily performed outdoors, through most weather conditions.
