We are home to more than 14,000 faculty and staff, over 40,000 students and 260,000 alumni worldwide.Your work will have a meaningful influence on a fascinating cross-section of people \xe2\x80\x94 from our students and community members, to our renowned researchers and innovators, making discoveries and generating solutions that make the world healthier, safer, stronger and more just. .Working for the DepartmentEngineering & Operations (Building Operations) provides comprehensive 24-hour support maintaining, operating, and monitoring all key institutional infrastructure and building systems.PositionReporting to the Manager of Building Operations, the Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Refrigeration Supervisor oversees a diverse team of refrigeration mechanics, gas fitters, and HVAC filter specialists.In addition the HVAC Refrigeration Supervisor functions as a working supervisor, operating and troubleshooting HVAC systems, coordinating and scheduling yearly preventative maintenance programs for all refrigeration and gas fired equipment.The HVAC Refrigeration Supervisor is responsible for maintaining compliance with all ABSA and industry regulations.Duties

  • Assigns tasks to staff and contractors. Ensure that all staff are working safely, adhering to all university safety policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and perform the installation and maintenance of various control systems, including gas, pneumatic, thermostatic, hydraulic and electronic instruments and controls for heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air handling equipment on U of A Campus.
  • Plans and prioritizes work from work orders, preventative maintenance schedules, projects, and oral or written instructions related to this shop.
  • Interact, communicate and exchange information with Supervisors, Project Coordinators, various Trades Foremen and departmental contacts on a daily basis to ensure work is completed on time, in scope and on budget.
  • Provide training and leadership to new HVAC technicians.
  • Hold regular safety meetings encouraging thoughtful discussion on applicable safety topics.
  • Promote the proper use of PPE and safe work practices. Ensure that the training for all staff is current and up to date.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma
  • Gasfitter A ticket and or Refrigeration Mechanic Ticket
Preferred Qualifications
  • Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Certificate is an asset
  • Plumbing, Gasfitter B or Steamfitter ticket is an asset
  • Supervisory Leadership Course
  • Supervisory EHS Professional Development Course
