Under general supervision, applies knowledge and skill at the level of a journey worker and/or Supervisor to assemble, install, repair, and service refrigeration, heating, ventilating, and air condition (HVAC) control systems in an industrial plant.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Willing to join Local 787, compensation and benefits will be paid as per the collective agreement.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, or other specifications.
- Measure and layout reference points for installation.
- Assemble and install refrigeration or air conditioning components such as motors, controls, gauges, valves, circulating pumps, condensers, humidifiers, evaporators, and compressors using hand and power tools.
- Measure and cut piping, and connect piping using welding and brazing equipment.
- Install, troubleshoot, and overhaul entire heating, ventilation, air handling, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems.
- Startup system and test for leaks using testing devices.
- Install and connect piping that carries all types of refrigerant used for primary and secondary cooling.
- Install and start up refrigeration and air cooling systems and confirm that the systems are operating and functioning.
- Service, test, adjust, commission and decommission refrigeration and air cooling systems.
- Recharge system with refrigerant, check and test regulators, calibrate system, and perform routine maintenance or servicing.
- Repair and replace parts and components for entire refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, or heat pump systems.
- Assist in directing and coordinating the work for apprentices.
- Perform and support good housekeeping practices and properly disposes of waste according to Environmental Health and Safety Department.
- Use the prescribed personal protective equipment and uniforms as required.
- Work in compliance with Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, working knowledge of the COR program.
- Work effectively in a flexible team environment and communicate clearly with others.
- Prepare, complete, and submit documentation (e.g. work orders, requisitions, timecards, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Maintain vehicle, tools, and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
- Monitor work done by subcontractors for adherence to all requirements and procedures and report back to supervisor.
- Assisting other HVAC Technicians as required
- Maintain and coordinate building maintenance contracts.

Skills/Qualifications:
- Possess a valid Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic - 313A Certificate of Qualification.
- Gas Fitter 1 Certificate of Qualification is an asset.
- Two (2) years plus of relevant hands-on field experience in commercial and industrial settings, including demolition and installation.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- A clean driver's abstract is a requirement.
