Our ultimate goal is to build a workplace that attracts, retains, and develops top talent while maintaining a culture of respect, integrity, and diversity.Reporting to Senior Manager, People & Culture, the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Specialist will have overall accountability to develop and lead activities to support the education, awareness and compliance of health, safety and wellbeing policies and procedures at WoodGreen. You will collaborate closely with our various sites to identify and mitigate potential risks, promote a strong safety culture, and drive continuous improvement in health and safety practices. In addition, this role will oversee aspects of employee benefits administration, ensuring the smooth operation of health insurance, leaves administration and wellness initiatives. They will play a pivotal role in assisting employees with benefit inquiries, enrollments, and changes, while also managing benefits and workplace safety related documents.What You Will Do
The Health, Safety & Wellbeing Specialist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of WoodGreen\xe2\x80\x99s health and safety programs as well as managing employee benefits packages. You will work closely with the People & Culture team and other departments to support compliance with regulations and promote a positive work culture focused on employee wellbeing. This role is suited to a subject matter expert who is passionate about workplace health and safety, and disability management with an ability to be able to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.Health & Safety:

  • Support Managers across WoodGreen with understanding their obligations under the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Providing appropriate communication regarding meetings, monthly inspections, and first aid kit inspections.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure monthly health and safety inspections across our WoodGreen sites are completed.
  • Coordinate training sessions for Health & Safety managers representatives on safety policies.
  • Participate in reviewing workplace accident and incident investigations, analyzing the data, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with People & Culture team to manage the administration of WSIB claims, STD/LTD absences and return to work plans.
  • Manage and update the Health & Safety SharePoint site.
  • Develop and disseminate general information on health, safety, and wellness topics to educate employees and promote a culture of wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with Senior Manager and stakeholders to develop a communication campaign aimed at creating awareness and promoting workplace practices that address workplace hazards and maintain employee wellness.
Benefits Administration:
  • Support the Payroll and the People & Culture team with the administrative tasks related to employee benefits programs, including health insurance and wellness initiatives (e.g.: Employee Assistance Program communications/promotions).
  • Assist employees with benefit inquiries, enrollments, and changes.
  • Provide the administrative support for benefit related documentation related to leaves (Waiver of Premiums, WSIB claims, overaged dependent enrollments)
  • Conduct benefits orientations for new hires and provide ongoing support to employees regarding their benefits.
Compliance & Reporting:
  • Staying up to date on changes to OHSA legislation and regulation, and communicating these changes to the relevant stakeholders as required.
  • Support the reporting and documentation process as required by the Ministry of Labour.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Post-secondary education in human resources, business administration or related field, preferably with specialization in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation or Joint Health & Safety Certification would be considered an asset.
  • Extensive experience with health and safety, including WSIB and disability management. Preferably within a large and/or complex unionized public or private sector organization, applying Ontario legislation.
  • Excellent knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations, Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, collective agreements and human resource policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of effective communication strategies, including digital media, presentations, and training materials.
  • Experience in developing and implementing communication campaigns or initiatives related to health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Experience in measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of communication campaigns through metrics and feedback mechanisms.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite, in particular MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Excel, Outlook, ADP, and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrates advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities, adept at identifying requirements, exploring alternatives, recognizing opportunities for enhancement or change, and offering effective solutions for related challenges.
  • Possesses exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation abilities, enabling effective interaction across all organizational levels.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • This position may require travel between various WoodGreen sites to support operational teams with health & safety compliance as needed.
