Job Description


:Position Summary:Under the general supervision of the Director, Health & Safety, the Specialist, Health & Safety will develop, and implement safety policies, standards, procedures, guidelines, resources and education/training programs to safeguard team members and to ensure GCE properties follow applicable provincial health and safety regulations (Ontario, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick) as well as best practices. In consultation with the Director, Health and Safety, this role will provide guidance and support to Operations, Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSCs) and Human Resources team members to prevent work-related health and safety injuries/illnesses and ensure compliance with the applicable workplace safety legislation.Key Accountabilities:

  • Administers and maintains incident reporting and recording systems to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements, and tracks and monitors program performance through ongoing monitoring of key performance indicators (KPI's).
  • Provides support to Managers, Supervisors, JHSCs and Human Resources on matters relating to health and safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Supports the development of health and safety policies, safe work procedures, guidelines, resources, and preventative education programs to protect team members and ensures alignment with evolving best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborates with Health & Safety and site Human Resources teams and other internal business partners to implement health and safety program components.
  • Remains current on applicable health and safety legislation to ensure the Company continues to comply with evolving regulatory changes.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support compliance to the Company's internal policy and regulatory standards.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Certificate or diploma program in Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years progressive experience in occupational health and safety or related field
  • Experience supporting health and safety projects and training programs preferred
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation or working towards designation is an asset
  • Experience with WSIB Safety Excellence program implementation is an asset
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, JHSC Certification Part 1 and 2 is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience of health and safety regulations in Ontario. Knowledge of health and safety regulations in Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia is preferred
  • Solid analytical skills to investigate workplace health and safety incidents (including requirements for critical incidents), document findings and compile, analyze statistics and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Strong detail orientation is required
  • Proficient in MS Office (Office 365, Excel, Word, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint), Adobe Acrobat Pro and Visme
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a multi-office/location organization
  • Superior communications skills, both written and verbal; coupled with the ability to foster strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize work
  • Motivated and keen to learn and develop
  • Some travel required
