Reporting to the Director of Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing positive and constructive support, guidance, coaching and technical expertise to the Operations Managers, WHSC members and employees. The Health & Safety Manager is accountable for anticipating, evaluating, and monitoring health and safety risks; and develops and implements site-level strategies to address and control risks. This position facilitates the application of company H&S policies, requirements and standards and assists in ensuring regulatory compliance, claims management and training for the Lethbridge, and (2) Saskatoon locations.

Your day-to-day activities will include:

  • Provide leadership in site safety by supporting and ensuring adherence to company safety processes and objectives.
  • Identifies the need for, researches and writes recommendations for corporate Health and Safety program and procedures.
  • Develop H&S procedures and training reflective of a "best in class" safety program.
  • Develop and implement strategies that create safety engagement amongst employees and the site management team.
  • Provide direction for the application of all current legislative requirements and future changes to ensure implementation of PHMG safety program and compliance.
  • Continuously promotes and improves the process of hazard identification, risk assessments and compliance with the implementation of risk mitigation measures, safe operating procedures and other controls.
  • Take ownership of H&S projects and initiatives as assigned by the Director HSE and work with stakeholders to support implementation and sustainment efforts.
  • Plan and conduct audits of the PHMG H&S Program including on-site verification and remote assessments.
  • Manage WCB claims and oversee the return-to-work program.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in health and safety standards, policies, and practices for PHMG by being visibly present in the workplace and to provide technical H&S support to the management team.
  • Regular travel to all sites will be required.
The successful candidate should enter the position with the following qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety (CRSP an asset).
  • 5 years of Health and Safety work experience and knowledge of Federal OHS Legislation.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Very detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build relationships, credibility, and to be able to influence others to embrace change.
