Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Health, Safety, and Risk Superintendent to join our Health & Safety team in Long Harbour. This is a permanent position.

Reporting to the HSR Manager for Vale Newfoundland and Labrador, the Superintendent will lead a team that includes Health and Safety Advisors, Emergency Responders, and Industrial Hygienist to monitor and support the health and safety of our people who produce world class nickel, cobalt, and copper products. The primary responsibility of the Superintendent is to provide leadership, technical support, and guidance on the implementation of the Health, Safety and Risk management systems for the operating plant areas of the Long Harbour Processing Plant. Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Provide leadership and direction in Safety, Health, and Emergency Response in alignment with North Atlantic, Base Metals and Vale Group overall direction.
  • Provide resources and support to the line organization on the effective use of risk management systems, including Critical Risk Management, and Incident Management.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Vale Production System (VPS) in line with Vale Global Normatives, and Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Work with the Long Harbour Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement health and safety initiatives, strategies, goals, and objectives.
  • Safeguard the execution of the emergency response plan, including maintaining team, equipment, and standards.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the site clinic and onsite resources that perform medical surveillance and treat injuries.
  • Provide performance feedback to team members and coach and counsel employees on the standards of behaviour, and take corrective action as required.
  • Work closely with Provincial and Federal regulatory agencies to ensure Health and Safety Compliance for the operation.
  • Support the site OHS Committee to develop actions to improve safety and health performance.
  • Ensure HomeSafe distinctive actions are embedded in the planning and execution of all work.
About You

Education:
  • An Undergraduate Degree in a related field required.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certification preferred.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a similar role required.
  • 15 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in OHS and/or 5 years in process operations preferred.
Skills:
  • Extensive experience with systems (RCA, RAM, CTA, etc).
  • Expert knowledge of OHS codes and industry standards.
