Casual Positions from Jan 2024 - early May 2024 and Sept 2024 - May 2025 Face-to-face courses at the Ayamdigut (Whitehorse) campus & Practicum courses on site at various associated community agencies Initial Review Date: October 20, 2023 Are you interested in teaching/mentoring future health care workers? Yukon University is looking for qualified individuals, on a casual/sessional basis, to teach courses in the Health Care Assistant Program throughout the Winter 2024 and Fall 2024 terms. We are currently seeking out instructors for the following courses: COMM 125 \xe2\x80\x93 Interpersonal Relationships & Communication Skills Through the use of self-reflection, theory, and experience, this course will help students develop effective communication skills for use in interpersonal relationships, workplace and team environments, particularly in the North. [Winter Term 2024: Jan-April] HCA 100 \xe2\x80\x93 Health & Healing A This course introduces students to a theoretical framework for practice and the foundational philosophical values required for competent practice as a HCA. Concepts of caring, care-planning and person-centred care as they relate to health and healing are explored, as well as effective problem-solving approaches necessary for practice. [Winter Term 2024: Jan-April] HCA 102 \xe2\x80\x93 Introduction to Practice This course provides an introduction to the role of the HCA within the Yukon health care system. Students will be introduced to the ethical and legal issues in health care, the healthcare team and the roles and functions of HCA within the team. Self-reflective skills for practice and effective job-finding approaches are also included in the course. [Winter Term 2024: Jan-April] HCA 160 \xe2\x80\x93 Clinical Placement - Long Term Care This Practicum course gives students the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned in HCA theory/lab courses to give safe, competent care to individuals living in long term care. Students are buddied with appropriate Care Aide staff and supervised by the practicum course instructor. Instructors are on-site with students in Long Term Care facilities during student shifts. [Winter Term 2024: Jan-April. Fall Term 2024: Sept-Dec. & Winter Term 2025: Jan-May] HCA 150 \xe2\x80\x93 Clinical Placement - Home Care This Practicum course gives students the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills learned in other HCA theory/lab courses to give safe, competent care to individuals living at home in the community. Students are buddied with Home Support Workers (employed by a local Home Care agency) and supervised by the practicum course instructor. Instructors check-in, meet regularly with students but do not go with students into client\xe2\x80\x99s homes. [Winter Term 2024: Jan-May] HCA 140 \xe2\x80\x93 Healing 3 A \xe2\x80\x93 Personal Care and Assistance This lab skills course offers students the opportunity to acquire personal care and assistance skills within the HCA role. In-class theory and supervised laboratory experiences assist students to learn basic caregiving skills which they will use in their practicum experience. The ideal candidate will have at minimum: a Bachelor of Nursing Degree (BN/BScN) and full-practicing Registered Nursing license in Yukon.
