Description

In this role, you will be responsible for the production of research reports, support, evaluation, and development of research analyses, and the ongoing activities of the research group to support Sales, Trading, Corporate Finance, Retail Advisors, and the analyst/issuer marketing and communications teams.

As a Head of Research in the Capital Markets team, you will also act as a publishing research analyst and the ultimate approver, as described in the iA Policies & Procedures Manual. You will be responsible for Research Reports that are distributed internally within iA private wealth as well as externally.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

With the aid of one or more equity research associates, maintain coverage on 6-10 issuers

Maintain support of coverage companies/sectors, which includes:

Write research reports, including recommendations and target prices

Maintain financial models and published forecasts

Maintain contact and relationships with institutional investors

Issuer marketing

Analyst marketing

Organize and maintain the flow of research publications, including:

Approval, either directly or by proxy, of all published research

Establish and modify report structures & templates as appropriate

Create procedures and ensure compliance within IIROC rules and iA Policies & Procedures

Manage employees within the Research Group (including Publishing), including:

Selecting and hiring qualified individuals

Determining appropriate staffing within various groups to achieve corporate and departmental goals

Appropriate training and mentoring of all Research employees

Departmental structures and compliance including:

Maintaining Departmental Policies and Procedures Guide

Ensuring employee conduct is aligned with corporate policies and IIROC rules

Supervise and approve other iAPW Research (ie. Mutual Fund/Product Research)

Long-Term Responsibilities:

Research Coverage Strategy - Develops and implements the strategic elements of Research Coverage; guiding the basis on which the rest of the Capital Markets department conducts activities and allocates resources. Identifies big picture trends and evolving client needs; adjusting staffing expertise and focus segments as a result. Establishes success metrics for the Research Group.

Client Coverage (External or Internal) - Represents iA to executives and board members of covered or prospective companies, as well as acting as the main spokesperson for the research group and iA Capital Markets in general to the media, general public, retail advisors, institutional investors, and other departments within iA.

Accountability - Accountable for the Research and Publishing departments. Monitor budgets across the same span. Ultimately for the quality of work published to external sources, including clients, the media, and general public.

People Leadership - Directs short-and long-term department staffing needs. Ensuring training of pertinent capabilities and development objectives for all employees. Coaching of mid/senior staff on managing and developing junior members.

Strategic internal relationships - Develop and maintain strategic relationships with other functional groups within Capital Markets as well as representing Research and Capital Markets to other groups within iA, external clients, suppliers, and partners.

Judgement - Uses advanced logic, knowledge of regulatory guidelines, market knowledge, network, best practices, and competitive intelligence to make highly complex judgements with a noticeable impact at the division level.

Desired Qualifications:

At least 15+ years of relevant experience in a publishing sell-side analyst capacity

Demonstrated success in leading teams in a people manager capacity

Demonstrated knowledge across multiple functions and business lines. Bachelor & graduate degrees, including business, accounting, or finance specialties

Must be a CFA charter holder; Must have: Partners, Directors & Officers Exams

NRD registration is required

Excellent language skills in French and English, both oral and written, due to frequent interactions with Anglophone and Francophone clients and internal colleagues/partners across Canada

30% Research - own coverage

15% Report review & publishing
