Our Position Canada, as part of OBU EUCAN region, is a key contributor to the continued and future growth of our Oncology business at AstraZeneca. We seek dedicated medical affairs leadership to elevate the potential of our leading Oncology portfolio and pipeline, delivering scientific excellence, collaborating with a wide variety of in- and external partners. Our organization is well set and empowered to operate as a key catalyst between our global business strategies and the local healthcare systems, enabling and evolving a dynamic and swift commercial, access and medical implementation in the respective markets. The Head of Oncology Medical Affairs is responsible for the leadership of the AstraZeneca Oncology Medical Affairs team in Canada. This role is accountable for the development and delivery of Oncology Medical Affairs strategy, strong scientific and research expertise to ensure success of AstraZeneca Canada\xe2\x80\x99s Oncology portfolio and delivery of therapeutic leadership in key disease areas including lung cancer, breast cancer, haematology, gynaecology, genitourinary, and gastrointestinal cancers. As a core member of the Oncology Leadership Team (OLT) and EUCAN Regional Core Medical Team (CMLT) this leader will collaborate to set the integrated strategic direction; providing leadership and direction, aligning resources to support our activities to achieve our Oncology medical and scientific affairs objectives. The OMAH reports directly to the Head of Oncology Canada. Responsibilities: Leadership, Team Management and People Development

  • Lead the AZ Canadian Oncology medical affairs team through therapeutic leadership and excellence to create and deliver the Medical Oncology Plan for Canada addressing; portfolio prioritization opportunities, development of skills, and manage team performance
  • Support and contribute actively to impact the actions of the Oncology Business Unit in Canada. With an entrepreneurial spirit, develop alignments among cross-functional teams: marketing, sales, market access, regulatory affairs, clinical research (SM&M), compliance, capabilities, and patient affairs to achieve the strategic goals
  • Lead, mentor and empower the team, including recruitment and retention of high-quality employees through talent management and succession planning, the setting of clear expectations to drive performance and ensure engagement, and providing opportunities for growth and development
Strategic & Operational Excellence
  • Build medical affairs objectives and clear goals, coordinate and prioritize medical activities including both pipeline and commercialized products across the portfolio
  • Define, manage, and prioritize the medical budget and the allocation of resources to ensure operational excellence, aligning with the Head of Oncology Canada.
  • Member of AstraZeneca Canadian Senior Leadership team, collaboratively build forward-thinking Corporate and Functional strategic/operational plans, and accountable to deliver aligned plans
  • Take responsibility for the management of Compassionate Use Programs
Cross-functional activities
  • Ensure scientific leadership and medical excellence, and build an image of AstraZeneca as leader in Oncology by developing innovative and differentiating collaborations with key external decision markers and partners
  • Collaborate and coordinate scientific affairs activities with local SALT as well as Oncology EUCAN region scientific affairs leadership team (EUCAN CMLT). Actively contribute to the development of the regional EUCAN medical strategy, plans and scientific projects
  • Develop and ensure high quality relationships with key medical experts, professional societies, co-operative groups, research institutions, etc. related to our key therapeutic areas
  • Collaborate effectively with AZ Canada VP of Scientific Affairs, Medical Evidence Lead and the R&D team to attract and implement appropriate research into Canada
  • Ensure on time and high quality reimbursement dossiers and statements together with market access
Compliance
  • Responsible for internal and external interactions of the team, regularly evaluating business/compliance risks to enable teams to operate accordingly
  • Ensure own and team\xe2\x80\x99s compliance with AstraZeneca\xe2\x80\x99s Code of Conduct and company policies and procedures, including collecting and reporting Adverse Events, relating to people, finance, technology, security and Safety, Health and Environment.
  • Lead the Local Review and Evaluation Group (LREG). Assure review, approval and conduct of Oncology ESRs and observational research (including RWEs) in Canada in accordance with all company and departmental procedures including GCP, ICH guidelines, AZ guidelines and SOPs
Education and Experience
  • MD preferred (ideally with Oncology training) and/or Ph.D, with oncology experience
  • At least 10 years of effective Medical Affairs experience in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably including at least 5 years in oncology
  • Demonstrated track record of leadership success and experience leading a medical team with good examples of cross functional effectiveness and impact
  • Strong communication skills and positive interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop others
  • Clinical development experience and understanding of drug development
  • Experienced with key national regulations in the field of Healthcare and Medical compliance and commercialization as well as Pharmacovigilance
