The Opportunity:
The Head Cook will oversee the daily operations of the kitchen to ensure the health and safety of participants and staff. Menu development, food preparation, training, relationship building and administration will be a major focus of this position
Responsibilities:
  • The Head Cook is responsible for the preparation and service of healthy and balanced meals in a residential camp setting for approximately 180 people.
  • Ensures that all areas are clean, safe and well organized.
  • Ensures the safety of all members, property and self by following established Workplace Health and Safety practices and procedures at all times.
  • Provides a high standard of customer service to all participants
  • The Head Cook will have up to 3 Assistant Cook staff and must provide training and leadership for them.
  • Manage Head and Assistants Cooks\xe2\x80\x99 schedules.
  • Responsible for food ordering/storage and upkeep of camp kitchen. They must be responsible with the given budget and will report to the Camp Director.
  • Working with the Wellness Coordinator, the Head Cook will be responsible to ensure all members of the kitchen staff must be aware of food allergies and special dietary requirement of camp participants.
  • The Head Cook must be available to work full time (40 hours). Work hours may vary.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • High School or Post-Secondary Education.
  • NB Food Safety Course training
  • Proven experience working in a kitchen and providing leadership to other staff is essential.
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Comfortable identifying and handling allergens and creating alternate menus when needed.
  • Ability to effectively support and supervise a seasonal staff of 3.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skill
  • Excellent team player and able to work with senior leadership team.
  • Current First Aid & CPR is considered an asset.
  • WHMIS Training considered an asset.
  • Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check.

Required
