Senior Coach

Playgrounds is the sole dedicated parkour gym in the KW region. We run classes for kids that teach them how to traverse obstacles, flip, and land safely. We have a level system & curriculum that outline the requirements for learning and mastering each skill. Athletes have the opportunity to level up over time, or to engage with our classes and learn skills without the goal of levelling up. In addition to our kids classes, we have some limited adult programs as well! As a Senior Coach, you will be trained in the basics of parkour and will run classes & programs for kids ranging from as young as 18mo - 17y; potentially the adult programs depending on your availability. During the Summer months, this would include helping to run Summer Camps (ages 4-13) as well. Our programs outside of regular classes include: parties & events, open gym (all ages & adult), stay & play, camps, intro drop in classes (kids & adult) & Nerf drop ins.

Senior Coaches are responsible for ensuring participants have an engaging, educational, safe and enjoyable experience in classes and programs. This includes but is not limited to: guiding participants through their stations & cueing athletes to help them improve, behavioural management, and facilitating games & activities during camps & parties. Senior Coaches are also responsible for providing guidance and direction to Movement Coaches, float coaching (moving between groups of classes and assisting/making adjustments as needed), providing first aid & completing incident reports, helping to complete & oversee Movement Coaches complete cleaning duties, helping to ensure daily checklists are complete and taking payments/overseeing customers completing waivers as required. Senior coaches must set a positive example for Movement Coaches, and communicate any issues or concerns as soon as possible.

Skills:

Patient, engaging & kind manner with children. Group management, problem solving mindset, communication skills, and ability to assist children regulate emotions and reactions with others, and diffuse conflicts or potential bullying situations. Responsible, athletic, and ability to cue athletes to help them improve, spotting athletes as required, and working in a fast-paced team environment.

Experience:

Applicants must have experience working with and coaching children in an athletic setting, as well as some experience in a leadership role. Applicants must have a currenct First Aid & CPR level C certificate, as well as complete a vulnerable sector check if 18+. We will reimburse hired employees for the cost of their vulnerable sector check.

Experience in parkour and/or gymnastics is an asset, as well as experience with coaching neurodivergent children in sport. NCCP, High Five or other coaching specific certifications are an asset. Applicants must be able to commit to work at least 20 hours per week for the duration of employment.

Regardless of previous coaching and parkour experience, learning at least some parkour as well as learning how to teach parkour with our methods is mandatory.
