We are seeking a skilled Chef to join our team in our modern Snack Bar. We are pioneering a Toronto-like food dining experience for patrons in Oshawa. We are all about community and building something special and unique out here in Durham. We offer a large variety of tapas dishes as well as a full pizza menu.
As Chef, you will play a key leadership role in the kitchen by overseeing daily operations and driving culinary innovation. You will be responsible for developing new menu items, ensuring consistent food quality, and maintaining efficient kitchen workflows. This role requires strong creativity, organization, and leadership to manage kitchen staff and uphold high culinary standards.
Duties:
Menu Development:
Create and test new menu items, seasonal specials, and recipe updates that align with the Snack Bar's concept and quality standards.
Menu Costing & Profitability:
Conduct detailed food costing for all dishes, maintain target margins, and adjust recipes or vendors as needed.
Inventory Management:
Track and control inventory levels, monitor product usage, log waste, and ensure proper storage practices.
Ordering & Vendor Relations:
Place and manage food and supply orders, maintain relationships with vendors, and ensure timely and cost-effective procurement.
Kitchen Management:
Supervise, and train kitchen staff to ensure an efficient, safe, and collaborative work environment.
Quality & Consistency:
Ensure all dishes are prepared to specification, maintain kitchen cleanliness, and uphold food safety standards.
Operational Support:
Assist in streamlining kitchen procedures, improving efficiency, and reducing food and labor waste.
Events & Catering:
Collaborate with management to plan menus for events and catering services, oversee preparation and execution of catered functions, and ensure quality and consistency for in-house events.
Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience in a professional kitchen, with a strong passion for food and hospitality
Excellent knife skills and proficiency in fundamental cooking techniques
Ability to provide and maintain your own set of sharp, well-kept knives and essential tools
Solid understanding of food safety standards and proper handling procedures
Proven ability to work efficiently and maintain composure in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a team
Experience using a wide range of kitchen equipment and cooking methods
Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, based on event needs
Positive attitude, professionalism, and strong, upbeat kitchen presence are valued assets
