Above and Beyond Care Services Inc. is seeking a skilled and compassionate
Head Chef/Kitchen Manager
to oversee meal preparation for individuals with disabilities in our care facilities. The Head Chef/Kitchen Manager will be responsible for planning and preparing nutritious meals tailored to client dietary needs, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, and maintaining a welcoming dining environment.
Overseeing the daily operation of the kitchen.
This is a "working-chef" role
where you are expected and required to cook on-line a majority of the time. Supervising all kitchen staff and ensuring quality levels are maintained and staff are preforming at the expected level.
This role is essential in supporting client health, dignity, and overall well-being by providing meals that are not only nourishing but also culturally sensitive, enjoyable, and person-centered.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation & Planning
Prepare and serve well-balanced meals and snacks in accordance with client dietary requirements, allergies, and preferences.
Create weekly and monthly meal plans that meet Canada's Food Guide recommendations.
Adapt menus for special diets, including gluten-free, diabetic, vegetarian, or texture-modified meals.
Food Safety & Sanitation
Ensure all food is stored, prepared, and served in compliance with Alberta Health Services (AHS) food safety regulations.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.
Monitor food expiry dates and rotate stock to minimize waste.
Collaboration & Client Care
Work with caregivers, nurses, and management to coordinate meal schedules.
Support individualized care by considering cultural and personal food preferences of clients.
Interact respectfully with clients during meal service, fostering a positive dining experience.
Inventory & Resource Management
Monitor food inventory levels and prepare supply requests.
Manage kitchen budget efficiently while ensuring quality and variety in meals.
Coordinate with vendors for timely food supply deliveries.
Regulatory & Compliance
Comply with all health, safety, and workplace regulations including
AHS and SLALA standards
.
Participate in facility inspections and audits related to food services.
Document food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and menu plans for compliance records.
Qualifications:
Education:
Red seal an asset but not required.
Professional Cooking/Culinary Training Diploma required.
High school diploma required; culinary training or professional certification preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar kitchen management role and in a residential, healthcare, or hospitality setting.
Experience preparing meals for individuals with special dietary needs is strongly preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of nutrition, food safety standards, and dietary planning.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Licensing/Certification Requirements
Applicants must hold:
Food Safety Certification (AHS-approved).
Health & Safety Certification.
Valid Occupational First Aid Certificate.
