The role of the Senior Electrical Hardware Designer is important in fulfilling the strategic roadmap goals of Lockheed Martin Canada Inc (Lockheed Martin). The candidate will perform in the Electrical Authority Lead role to interpret the program needs and create appropriate design documentation for new and legacy products/systems. As part of the Engineering team, the candidate will be directly involved in understanding customer requirements and applying best-in-class product solutions as they relate to electrical design. These resultant products/systems will serve to maintain Lockheed Martin's robust position in the Naval market space.
The candidate should possess the following skills and experiences:
Ability to analyze and interpret block diagrams, electrical schematics, interconnects, mechanical drawings, specification documentation, company and industry standards to a level where the information provided is sufficient to develop design documentation.
Review and provide constructive feedback to ensure accuracy and quality on design requirement inputs such as system level requirements and architectures.
Provide technical solutions to complex problems for equipment operating in harsh environments.
Create new or improve legacy power and system functional/block drawings, architectures, schematics, interconnects, wiring diagrams and cable/harness drawings to meet product and system needs.
Be responsible for entire power & signal distribution, control & conversion, grounding & bonding, and operator/maintainer electrical safety.
Select or asses new components to meet design needs including sensors, controllers, converters, and much more.
Experienced in documenting designs in Electronic Computer Aided Design (ECAD), Visio and MS Office software products.
Ensure safety and quality of products while operating within budget and resource constraints.
Conduct risk/opportunity and root cause analysis as required.
Support Production team during new builds, design changes and New Product Integration (NPI) stages.
Leads or supports prototype development and qualification testing as required.
Provide electrical and cable design effort and material cost estimates for project management stakeholders.
Allocates and coordinates labour and lab resources for programs.
Build parts BOMs and respond to obsolescence issues.
Conduct and minute peer reviews of electrical/power/cable design output through project workflow.
Working knowledge of configuration management processes for engineering changes.
Leverage a knowledge of Electromagnetic Combability/ Electromagnetic Interference (EMC/EMI) issues and their mitigation as they pertain to cable design.
Ongoing research of new materials/suppliers to strengthen supply chain.
Prepare specifications, evaluate vendors, and create or analyze test reports. Monitor and support subcontractors through design development, test and implementation.
Develop and mentor junior team members.

Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited University.
8+ years of experience in a product development role leading engineering teams in creating solutions to complex problems for systems used in rugged environments
Resourceful/agreeable to enable strong stakeholder, vendor, subcontractor and customer communications.
Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, signal generators, etc.
Motivated and results-oriented self-starter.
Subject matter expert on electrical safety and product design best practices.
Ability to work on multiple programs simultaneously, prioritize tasks for self and others, move forward with partial information, predict and communicate risks, status and delegated tasks.

Additional skills desired for the role
Experience with Zuken Electrical Design Software.
Experience with designing, maintaining and/or servicing Naval combat systems.
Complementary experience in mechanical design, system design and manufacturing.
Experience working with and complying to military standards, Canadian Forces Technical Orders (CFTOs) and/or similar industry standards.
Environment requirements: Basic understanding of the principles of shock and vibration, thermal management and electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic compliance management and how these environmental requirements are accommodated in product design.
Design to cost: Understanding of design to cost principles to ensure early establishment of realistic cost objectives and then managing the key factors which design cost to meet the stated objectives.
Design for manufacturability/assembly/test (including tolerance analysis) and product functionality: Understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly principles to produce cost effective cable and harnesses which are optimized for manufacturing.
