About us

TerraFixing (https://terrafixing.com/) is a Canadian company developing Direct Air Capture (DAC) systems designed to operate efficiently in cold climates. Our technology captures CO? directly from the atmosphere using proprietary adsorption processes and enables decarbonization in remote northern regions where renewable energy potential is high.

Having secured over $3M in government funding (NRCan (https://www.canada.ca/en/natural-resources-canada/news/2025/08/canada-invests-in-carbon-capture-and-storage-in-ottawa.html), SDTC) and a $10M commercial agreement (https://obj.ca/terrafixing-gets-1-6m-to-capture-co2-in-canadas-north/), TerraFixing is at a pivotal stage of growth. We are scaling our technology from lab prototypes to commercial-ready units capable of removing CO? from the atmosphere at low cost and high efficiency.

We are a growth-mindset company -- our capabilities, technology, and impact expand every day. We are on a noble mission to fix global warming, and while the work is challenging, we face it with grit, optimism, and a commitment to creating a better future. At TerraFixing, communication, teamwork, and constructive conflict resolution are essential to how we build both our technology and our culture.

Purpose of the role

As a Climate Hardware Engineer (Electrical Focus), you will help design, build, and test the instrumentation, control, and electrical systems that power TerraFixing's DAC units -- from benchtop prototypes to large containerized systems.

This role is ideal for engineers who love to design and then build what they create, combining theory and practice. You will be hands-on in the lab, working directly with process, mechanical, and software engineers to integrate and commission real systems that capture carbon from the air.

You'll gain experience with industrial automation, process instrumentation, and field commissioning -- contributing directly to the development of climate-impacting hardware.

Key Responsibilities

Design and document electrical and control systems, including wiring schematics, control panel layouts, and I/O configuration. Develop and implement PLC-based control logic, safety systems, and HMI interfaces for lab and pilot units. Select and integrate flow, pressure, temperature, and concentration instrumentation into process systems. Assist in the assembly, wiring, and commissioning of prototype and pilot DAC units. Support troubleshooting, calibration, and optimization of control systems in the lab and field. Participate in system safety and reliability reviews (e.g., FMEA, risk assessments). Collaborate closely with the mechanical and process engineering teams to ensure smooth system integration. Prepare and maintain documentation (I/O lists, test procedures, wiring diagrams, control narratives). Contribute to continuous improvement of hardware design, testing methods, and lab organization.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical, Mechatronics, Instrumentation & Controls, or related Engineering disciplines. 0-3 years of relevant experience (co-ops, research projects, or personal hands-on projects count). Demonstrated ability to build and test hardware -- e.g., wiring, assembling prototypes, or working with automation equipment. Familiarity with: o PLC programming and industrial control logic SCADA / HMI configuration Electrical wiring and panel assembly Flow, pressure, temperature, and concentration instrumentation Industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA) Reading and creating P&IDs and wiring schematics Strong teamwork, communication, and conflict resolution skills Curiosity, adaptability, and drive to solve complex engineering challenges Passion for hands-on work and building technology that addresses climate change.

What we offer:

Meaningful, impactful work -- directly contributing to carbon removal and climate solutions. A collaborative, innovative environment where learning and iteration are encouraged. Mentorship and growth opportunities within a rapidly scaling startup. Competitive compensation, health and dental benefits, and employee stock options. * A team culture built on trust, openness, and purpose -- where doing hard things well is celebrated
