ecobee introduced the world's first smart Wi-Fi thermostat to help millions of consumers save money, conserve energy, and bring home automation into their lives. That was just the beginning. We continue our pursuit to create technology that brings peace of mind into the home and allows people to focus on the moments that matter most. We take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment, all while being part of the exciting, connected home revolution.
In 2021, ecobee became a subsidiary of Generac Power Systems. Generac introduced the first affordable backup generator and later created the category of automatic home standby generator. The company is committed to sustainable, cleaner energy products poised to revolutionize the 21st century electrical grid. Together, we take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment.

How You'll Make an Impact:
Te
st Planning & Verification
Create and execute engineering design verification (DV) test plans using circuit design knowledge and best practices for DUT bench testing.
Translate ambiguous test requests into clear, peer-reviewable specifications including schedules, risk registers, and success metrics.
Perform engineering assessments of test and verification activities against real-world product applications.
Prepare and execute reliability test plans to support warranty and service life targets.
Conduct HALT/ALT testing to expose vulnerabilities and improve design robustness.
Analyze experiment results and peer test reports to issue formal approval or rejection.
Create thorough documentation and reports for all tests performed.
Reliability, Risk, & Manufacturing Readiness
Root-cause factory issues by isolating failures at the system and component levels using design and manufacturing knowledge.
Perform PFMEAs and define test coverage for high-volume production builds.
Execute cost-benefit and risk analyses to optimize test and verification decisions.
Identify and validate alternate components to reduce BOM cost or mitigate supply chain risks.
Provide recommendations on design integrity and readiness for mass production.
Identify and escalate design risk factors, proposing alternatives with cross-functional considerations.
Monitor schedules and escalate risks related to verification, compliance, and fixture delivery deadlines.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (firmware, regulatory, manufacturing, design) to align test activities and results.
Recommend and drive improvements to test methods, reports, procedures, and fixtures.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of design verification and automation processes across programs.
Provide mentorship to team members to follow best practices for test execution
RF & Regulatory Compliance
Design, simulate, and match antennas for Wi-Fi, BLE, and Sub-GHz bands; validate performance using VNAs, spectrum analyzers, and OTA chambers.
Coordinate pre-validation and regulatory test activities with firmware and compliance teams, including timing, margin analysis, and documentation.
Research and execute applicable UL, CSA, IEC, and other international standards.
Perform environmental, ESD, surge, EFT, and compliance testing of products.
Adapt fixture and RF designs mid-cycle in response to evolving product requirements without impacting delivery timelines.
Test Development & Automation
Design and build test instrumentation systems to standardize and automate data capture across multiple DUTs.
Build and iterate custom verification fixtures to enhance repeatability, scope, and throughput.
Create production test plans, scripts, and fixtures for manufacturing validation.
Develop Python-based scripts to interface with SCPI instruments, analyze datasets, and visualize results.
Propose and implement automation and verification improvements from concept through deployment.
Conduct and review Gage R&R analyses, yield reports, and test issue resolutions.
Electrical & Design
Develop block diagrams, controlled-impedance schematics, and multi-board PCB layouts; lead design reviews and incorporate feedback.
Design PCBs for prototypes, fixtures, and development tools.
Prototype and validate new circuits before inclusion in production designs.
Perform precision hand-soldering of micro-coax, 0201 passives, and BGA rework when needed.
Build mechanical and electrical test fixtures supporting repeatable, high-throughput testing.
###
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
7+ years of experience in hardware development, test automation, and regulatory compliance.
Proficiency in PCB design tools, SolidWorks, and Python-based data analysis.
Strong understanding of RF principles and hands-on experience with lab instrumentation.
Excellent communication and project management skills.
Just so you know: The hired candidate will be required to complete a background check.*
What happens after you apply:
Application review.
It will happen. By an actual person in Talent Acquisition. As we sometimes get upwards of 100+ applications for some roles, it can take a few days, but every applicant can expect a note regarding their application status.
Interview Process.
A 30-minute phone/video call with a member in Talent Acquisition
A 1 hour interview with our Hiring Manager - Sr Manager, Hardware Engineer, Director, Hardware Engineer and our VP of Hardware Engineering. This conversation will revolve around getting to know each other, the backgrounds and professional journeys encompassing some technical discussion
The next step will be to do a technical case study and present in a final virtual interview of 1 hour. We normally give candidates a week to complete the case study.
