OVERVIEW

Vertex is currently accepting applications for a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Verifier within the Energy Transition & Climate Change team in Calgary, Alberta. The Greenhouse Gas Emissions Verifier will provide Vertex clients with consulting and third-party validation, verification, and auditing services related to emission offset projects, emissions compliance reporting, and voluntary initiatives. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic, exceptional attention to detail, clear communication skills, and the ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Greenhouse Gas Validation/Verification ISO 14064-3 (2006 or 2019) training required
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in verifying emission offsets or providing GHG verifications is required
  • Strong technical proficiency in greenhouse gas (GHG) quantification and reporting protocols in the energy industry required
  • Degree or technical diploma in environmental engineering or environmental science preferred, professional designation an asset
  • Must be familiar with various accreditation bodies and assessment requirements and competencies
  • Experience quantifying corporate GHG inventories is considered to be an asset
  • Greenhouse Gas protocol (quantification methodology) development experience preferred
  • Carbon offset project development experience preferred
  • Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) of emissions preferred
  • ESG Reporting using global standards (GRI, SASB, TCFD, STBI, VRF) an asset
  • Experience auditing or quantification of GHG reporting for Responsibly Sourced Gas/Oil certification an asset
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with a variety of project stakeholders (field personnel, clients, technical personnel, and management)
  • A strong understanding of provincial, state, and federal air emissions regulations preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask, a critical thinker with innovative, problem-solving abilities with strong time management skills

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and manage GHG validation, verification, and auditing projects for Vertex clients\xe2\x80\x99 carbon offset project reports, emissions reduction plans (ERP), and compliance reports
  • Conduct GHG quantification and certification projects, including reporting and third-party auditing for certified natural gas (differentiated gas / responsibly sourced gas)
  • Develop and execute emission reduction projects for Vertex clients, including the development of measurement, monitoring and verification programs; emission reduction project documentation; and other emissions reporting and verification activities
  • Utilize general principles and requirements for validating and verifying environmental and emissions information
  • Work closely with Emissions Management and Engineering teams to identify, quantify, and assess sources of GHG emissions
  • Provide education internally and externally on requirements of verification and third-party auditing processes for environmental information including GHG emissions
  • Maintain and apply a strong understanding of the following regulatory and voluntary programs:
    • Oil & Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0)
    • MiQ Standard for Methane Emissions Performance
    • EO100 Standard for Responsible Energy Development
    • US EPA Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program (GHGRP)
    • ISO 9001 Quality management systems \xe2\x80\x94 Requirements
    • ISO 14001 Environmental management systems \xe2\x80\x94 Requirements with guidance for use
    • ISO 14064 Greenhouse gases (Parts 1-3)
    • ISO 14065 General principles and requirements for bodies validating and verifying environmental info
    • ISO 19011 Guidelines for auditing management systems
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of quality management systems, GHG verification and validation requirements throughout project execution
  • Communicate directly with internal teams and client operations to develop and coordinate emission reduction projects, including Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) programs and engineered solutions
  • Assure all activities for an assigned program are completed within a time frame consistent with Vertex policies and procedures
  • Critically assess processes and provide recommendations as part of Vertex\xe2\x80\x99s continuous improvement programs
  • Support the development of project proposals and cost estimates, and maintain awareness of products and services available to customers
  • Maintain a safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to Company/Customer safety standards and practices and to legal regulations, alerting others regarding potential hazards or concern

LOCATION
This position is a hybrid role and may be located out of Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto or another centre
