As a key member of the Revenue Team, the Grants Specialist is responsible for researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals that support Amii's goals and meet guidelines and criteria. The Grants Specialist serves as the primary grant writer and supports special project initiatives. This position requires strong writing, opportunity development, and project management skills.
The position focuses on achieving excellence in three main accountabilities:
Grant Proposal Development
: Prepare and organize materials for proposals in collaboration with internal teams using problem-solving skills to identify areas for creativity and efficiency as well as to inspire peers and team members to work together to win grant competitions.
Grant Opportunities
: Identify grant opportunities that support Amii's broader revenue and ecosystem objectives and for creating, improving, and maintaining grant prospecting systems, strategies, and tools.
Knowledge Management & Systems Optimization:
Build and maintain efficient systems, tools, and knowledge repositories that enhance Amii's grant seeking capacity.
Required Skills / Expertise
Key Responsibilities:
Grant Proposal Development
Drafts proposals/LOIs and grant application narratives in collaboration with project teams, finance, and the CRO
Leads cross-departmental collaboration on grants, including generating innovative ideas and strategies to meet or exceed requirements, and ensuring the successful completion of compelling grant submissions
Collaborates in the finalization and execution of contracts and agreements
Ensures the activities of grants and government relations are understood and in alignment within Amii's teams
Identifies opportunities for efficiency and take tangible actions to execute improvements
Upholds strict confidentiality regarding personal, corporate, and financial information, safeguarding sensitive data and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations
Grant Opportunities
Collaborates with the I&P team to maximize opportunities for grants and industry partnerships through superclusters and other economic development grants
Seeks new opportunities and approaches to securing new grant funding
Secures and tracks public funding and grant opportunities
Researches new funding and business development opportunities on a provincial, national and international level
Knowledge Management & Systems Optimization
Designs and maintains organized systems for storing and tracking grant research, proposal templates, and submission records
Uses AI and automation tools to improve prospecting, proposal writing, and internal coordination efficiency
Creates and maintains a grants knowledge base, including lessons learned, funder profiles, and successful proposal examples
Collaborates with internal teams to continuously refine the grants process for clarity, speed, and quality
Develops toolkits, checklists, and internal guides that help new or occasional contributors (e.g., researchers, delivery teams) participate effectively in the grant process
Qualifications:
Post Secondary Degree or Certificate in Business Administration, Economic Development or related field
5+ years of experience in fundraising, grant writing or grants management
Proficient in Google and Microsoft Office Suite
Familiarity and experience working with provincial, national and international research and innovation funders
Knowledge of the scientific research and innovation granting environment in Canada and Internationally
Experience with project management software (e.g. Asana)
Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (Nice to have)
Experience with CRM software systems (Nice to have)
