About us:

The Department of Social Justice Education offers a multi and interdisciplinary graduate program developed from the past programs of History and Philosophy of Education as well as Sociology in Education. This department provides students with critical understandings of the social, historical, cultural, political, economic, and ethical contexts of education, broadly conceived. Based on the diverse intellectual traditions of the humanities and social sciences, the department is committed to multi and interdisciplinary studies in education, with a focus on equity and social justice from a variety of perspectives including history, philosophy, sociology and political science.

Your opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Chair, the Graduate Liaison Officer is responsible for developing and implementing departmental systems, deadlines and procedures from point of graduate studies admissions and enrolment, to completion of degree/program requirements. Typical responsibilities will include: providing applicants and students with detailed information regarding requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines; processing and co-ordinating departmental graduate studies awards; liaising with other departments and student organizations regarding a range of academic information; maintaining and disseminating information regarding financial awards available; coordinating award competitions; and producing of a variety of reports for the department and/or academic programs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on Social Justice Education program and/or course requirements by probing and providing a range ofoptions and possible consequences
  • Keeping well-informed on programs, policies and procedures to provide detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
  • Interpreting guidelines andpolicies to disseminate information on awards
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Generating a range of regular and ad-hoc reports
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years experience in an graduate studies/academic setting or similar academic environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of and proficiency in MS Office applications and student information systems.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.
  • Effective, professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience providing excellent client service to a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, empathy, sound judgment and discretion.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Experience with interpretation and application of policy.
  • Accurate data entry and key boarding skills. Excellent attention to detail.

  • Comprehensive and current knowledge of School of Graduate Studies (SGS) admissions policies.

USW Pay Band 12 -- $71,842 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $91,875. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
