Job Type: Part-time, Contract

Salary: $28 - $40 per hour

Location: Vancouver, BC (Specific student location: V5X 1W2 area)

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic In-Home Tutor to work with a bright student entering Grade 1 in the

V5X 1W2

postal code area of Vancouver. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on a young learner's foundational literacy and numeracy skills, setting them up for success in their academic journey. The family is eager to start sessions soon, ideally beginning in August.

What You'll Do:



Provide engaging, one-on-one, in-home tutoring sessions for a Grade 1 student focusing on:

Phonics and Reading:

Building foundational phonics skills, word blending, sight word recognition, and early reading comprehension.

Writing & Spelling:

Developing basic writing mechanics, sentence formation, and age-appropriate spelling strategies.

Mathematics:

Introducing early math concepts including number sense, basic addition, subtraction, and problem-solving. Develop and implement individualized lesson plans tailored to the student's specific learning style and needs, based on initial assessments and ongoing progress. Create a positive, encouraging, and fun learning environment that fosters confidence and curiosity. Communicate regularly and effectively with parents (Rupinder and Govin) regarding student progress, areas of focus, and next steps. Adapt teaching methods and materials to ensure the student remains engaged and challenged.

What We're Looking For (Required Qualifications):



Proven Experience:

A minimum of 1 year of experience tutoring or teaching young children (Kindergarten to Grade 2), particularly in early literacy (phonics, reading, writing) and early numeracy.

Subject Matter Expertise:

Strong understanding of Grade 1 curriculum expectations in phonics, reading, writing, spelling, and basic math.

Child-Centered Approach:

Demonstrated patience, empathy, and the ability to connect with and motivate young learners.

Reliable Transportation & Proximity:

Must have a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation. Candidates must reside within a travel distance that allows for a

commute time of no more than 20 minutes

to the student's home in the V5X 1W2 postal code area. (This is a strict requirement due to the in-home nature and family's schedule).

Schedule Availability:

August:

Availability for 3 hours per week, ideally on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (1 hour per session).

September onwards:

Availability for 3 hours per week, ideally on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (1 hour per session), transitioning to evening hours after school.

Background Check:

A current Criminal Record Check (within the last 12 months) is mandatory.

This must be verifiable and will be a condition of employment. If you have a recent background check, please indicate this in your application.

Communication Skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with students and parents.

Preferred Qualifications:



Bachelor's Degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field. Experience with individualized education plans (IEPs) or supporting students with diverse learning needs. Familiarity with the British Columbia elementary curriculum.
