Chris Werner Consulting Inc. provides advisory and support services to Indigenous groups engaging with industry and government in land related issues. POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a full-time GIS Technician to support the creation, management, analysis, and presentation of spatial information. The position will require working on GIS in a project / consulting environment. The GIS Technician will be responsible for sourcing, creating, and managing GIS databases, analyzing and processing spatial information, and producing high quality digital and hard copy cartographic products.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Creation and maintenance of ongoing (operational) and project-based GIS.
Manage, analyze, and report on spatial and non-spatial data / information and mapping products.
Maintain and facilitate growth of GIS databases.
Convert, import, and export data in and out of the GIS.
Follow data management procedures and interpret and update metadata.
Draft and implement GIS procedures and frameworks for both internal and client use.
Mentor field workers in the use of basic GIS and photo/video equipment for field programs.
Conduct background review and consolidate various types of land-use data to support project implementation.
Qualifications - Mandatory:
Degree in GIS/Geography, Environmental Studies, Data Management, or related field
At least one year of relevant GIS experience
Experience with the following software: ArcGIS Pro, proficiency in scripting for GIS and database automation and data analysis, Microsoft Access or related database
Knowledge of map production and design
Organizational and communication skills, and ability to work well on a team
Qualifications - Desired:
Experience with the following software: Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Teams
Cartographic skills
Information Technology skills and experience
Experience with field equipment and backcountry camping
Experience operating and transporting all-terrain vehicles
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Hours/Location of Work:
CWC's office hours are from Monday to Friday, 8:30AM - 5:00PM.
Occasional field work may be required to support remote operations, data collection and client capacity building.
Salary:
Salary will be determined according to education and professional experience relevant to the position.
