Communitech is a hybrid organization headquartered in downtown Kitchener, Ontario. In-person connection is important to us, so we get together regularly for special events, collaboration days and team socials, and we ask our team members to work onsite from our Kitchener facility for at least 60 hours per month.

Reporting dually to the Data & Advanced Technology team and the Founder Services team, you will help Communitech by providing support to a variety of programs. You will expand the utility and data sets available on OpenHDMaps, a geospatial high definition mapping platform that combines and hosts disparate data sets from participating organizations, using the expertise of all members to build an ecosystem that supports innovation around autonomous vehicle application, smart cities and more. In addition, you'll provide administrative support to the startup pilot program, supporting early-stage founders in accessing Communitech resources.

What you'll be doing:

Data & Advanced Technologies Team: Support the OpenHDmaps platform by finding and integrating geospatial data, increasing its value to users across the mobility space.

Research use cases for the OpenHDMaps platform in automotive, transportation, smart cities, infrastructure as well as new novel sectors such as augmented/virtual reality.

Identify sources of open geospatial data that would be of value to users of the OpenHDMaps platform.

Use standard open source geospatial tools (e.g. QGIS) to collect, aggregate, clean the identified open data sets.

Build new tools using Python in GIS databases as required.

Work with various partners and users to integrate geospatial data onto the platform.

Founder Services Team: Coordinate and assist with our startup pilot program, focused on exploring how to best support pre-revenue founders to accelerate their business growth.

Lead outreach to potential participants

Draft communications, taking meeting notes, responding to general inquiries about this pilot program, and send follow-up emails and information

Logistics: Coordinate schedules, registrations, other administrative tasks focused on connecting founders with advisory supports and resources

Track metrics including number of companies in each stage, success metric(s) such as Net Promoter Score (NPS)

Provide additional support to our medtech founder programming by assisting in the coordination of medtech sessions and ongoing medtech program development

Qualifications:

Knowledge of open geospatial tools used to analyze/visualize data sets in various vector and raster formats (e.g. Shapefile, JSON, LiDAR, OpenStreetMap)

Understanding of High Definition mapping, autonomous vehicle or other transportation related technologies would be beneficial.

Interest in or experience with entrepreneurship and/or with technology startups is an asset

Strong written and verbal communications skills with strict attention to detail

Analytically minded for deep discussions on business needs

Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with client companies and other 3rd parties are a must

Ability to remain calm in stressful situations

Ability to prioritize multiple projects impacting a variety of internal and external stakeholders
