Mainland Construction Materials is currently hiring for a

Geomatics Supervisor to join its Winvan Paving division. The successful candidate will be responsible for both hands-on surveying duties and the strategic development of Winvan's geomatic capabilities.

The Position

: The main focus of this role is providing accurate survey data, layout, and measurements to support the design, construction, and quality control of roadbuilding projects. This role requires a strong understanding of surveying technology, equipment, and procedures, along with the ability to work collaboratively with project teams in a fast-paced construction environment.

Requirements:



Diploma or degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or minimum 5 years of related experience in surveying, preferably in roadbuilding or heavy civil construction. Extensive knowledge of base preparation and underground of Road Building Industry Ability to use survey equipment (Topcon experience a bonus) Ability to read and scale drawings Knowledge of CAD and PDF files Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to interpret drawings, plans, and specifications. Effective communication and problem-solving skills. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various job sites.

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):



Strategic & Departmental Development



Identify company needs and goals that can be supported through geomatics and assess current capabilities. Develop a strategic plan outlining objectives, scope, roles, and expected outcomes for the geomatics department. Assist with creating budgets, including equipment, software, training, and staffing. Acquire and maintain surveying, mapping, and machine control equipment and software. Implement systems and standards for spatial data collection, storage, retrieval, and quality control. Foster collaboration with other departments (concrete, paving, grading, estimating, project management) to integrate geomatics into workflows. Promote continuous improvement through feedback loops, innovation, and staying current with emerging technologies. Communicate the benefits of geomatics services to clients, ensuring expectations are met and exceeded.

Field & Project Execution



Conduct field surveys and establish control points for road construction and infrastructure projects. Collect, analyze, and interpret survey data to ensure accuracy in planning and execution. Perform layout and staking for earthworks, utilities, paving, and other construction activities. Operate and maintain survey equipment such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors. Prepare and maintain survey field notes, drawings, and electronic data files. Collaborate with project managers and superintendents to resolve discrepancies and provide technical support. Assist with quantity calculations, as-built surveys, and progress reporting. Troubleshoot and adjust survey data to adapt to changing site conditions.

Leadership & Compliance



Supervise and mentor junior staff, providing guidance on field procedures, equipment use, and data management. Develop and enforce QA/QC procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of survey data. Ensure compliance with company safety policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Promote a strong culture of health, safety, and environmental stewardship within the team.

Pay: $43.00-$51.00 per hour
