AECOM is currently seeking a Geochemist to join our team. We are looking for candidates that are enthusiastic and team-oriented with strong technical capabilities in ML/ARD and aqueous geochemistry. In this role, you will work with our experienced team of geologists, hydrogeologists and geochemists on projects in the mining, remediation, civil infrastructure, waste management, and water supply sectors across Canada and internationally. While our preference is for the successful candidate to be based out of our Burnaby, Victoria or Calgary offices, alternative locations including the flexibility of remote work will also be considered for the right candidate. This is a Full-time role.

Responsibilities:

  • Work within a team of hydrogeologists, geologists and geochemists on a wide variety of mining, major infrastructure, remediation and oil and gas opportunities.
  • Design and oversee implementation of geochemical and hydrogeological investigations including drilling and logging of soil and rock core, sampling of soil, rock, groundwater, surface water and soil gas, instrumentation and monitoring well installation.
  • Design and oversee laboratory testing programs to evaluate behaviour of soil, bedrock, mining waste and anthropogenic materials.
  • Evaluate geochemistry of solid phase (soil/waste rock/tailings), aqueous phase (inorganic/organic compounds), and stable/radioactive isotopes.
  • Develop conceptual hydrogeological and geochemical models to support field program design and resolve complex environmental problems.
  • Support development of contaminant transport models to support environmental impact assessments, remedial evaluations and risk assessments using software packages such as PHREEQC, Geochemist\'s Workbench, GoldSim and other modelling packages.
  • Interpret and report solid and aqueous geochemistry data.
  • Work closely with hydrogeologists and hydrologists to develop predictive water quality models.
  • Project Management duties including preparing proposals/workplans and managing project budgets, schedules, health + safety and project staffing.
  • Development of junior and intermediate staff through ongoing mentoring.
  • Support offices in British Columbia, across Canada, and internationally.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.Sc. in Geology, Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, or related science/engineering discipline with an emphasis on earth and environmental sciences.
  • Registered as a Professional Geoscientist or Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) or similar association.
  • 4+ years of experience in ML/ARD assessment and development of mitigation, management and monitoring plans for mining waste.
  • A valid class 5 driver\'s license with no restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Geochemistry, Geology, Hydrogeology, Chemistry or related engineering discipline with an emphasis on ML/ARD, geochemistry and water quality.
  • 8+ years of experience in ML/ARD assessment.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to complete field investigations, travel, and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs.
  • Experience with software packages such as Geochemist\'s Workbench, GoldSim and PHREEQC.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods including familiarity with statistical software.
  • Experience with geological databases and modelling software such as Leapfrog.
  • Working knowledge of relevant provincial, federal and municipal acts and regulations.
Additional Information

Offered rate of compensation in Burnaby, BC will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $81,525.19 - $102,661.35
