About the Role



Neighbourly Coffee is more than just a cafe - it's one of 12 Neighbours' social enterprises, designed to provide employment and job training opportunities for community members facing barriers to employment. We are a fast-paced, bustling, and inclusive cafe that prides itself on serving high-quality drinks, food, bread and baked goods while fostering a supportive work environment.

We are seeking a highly organized, team-oriented General Manager to oversee all aspects of cafe operations, including staff leadership, financial management, inventory control, customer service, and marketing. The ideal candidate will have a growth mindset, strong attention to detail, and a passion for both hospitality and social impact.

Compensation



Salary: $55,000-$65,000/year, commensurate with experience. This is a salaried position, and employees will not receive tips.

Key Responsibilities1. Leadership & Team Development



Oversee hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management for all cafe staff. Foster a cohesive and positive team environment between FOH and BOH. Support and mentor community members in work training, ensuring they develop valuable job skills.

2. Financial Management & Revenue Growth



Monitor and meet budget targets, ensuring cost control and financial sustainability. Identify and implement strategies to increase sales and revenue streams. Track inventory costs, recipe margins, and overall profitability.

3. Operations & Inventory Management



Manage inventory ordering, stock rotation, and waste reduction to maintain efficiency. Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are implemented and followed. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming cafe environment that meets health and safety standards.

4. Customer Service & Community Engagement



Ensure exceptional customer service, leading by example and addressing customer concerns professionally. Monitor and respond to customer feedback across platforms (Craver app, social media, Google Reviews). Work with the marketing team to promote new menu items, events, and community engagement initiatives.

5. Technology & Systems Management



Utilize Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets) for tracking operations and reporting. Use 7Shifts for scheduling and Craver for mobile order management. Monitor MarginEdge for financial tracking and cost analysis. Management of our mobile app.

Qualifications & Skills



Experience in cafe/restaurant management or a related leadership role. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of cost control, budgeting, and inventory management. Ability to manage and motivate a diverse team, including those facing barriers to employment. Familiarity with Google Workspace, 7Shifts, MarginEdge, and Craver is an asset. Passion for social enterprise and community impact.
