Job Description

We are looking for a garden crew member to be part of a team caring for beautiful gardens. This could be the job for you if you like to work outside in a small team, bring a great attitude, and want to learn about gardening. With experience, there is the opportunity to be a crew lead.

Crew members will drive to each job site with company-provided tools in their own vehicle (you will be reimbursed for km). You will work with other gardeners focusing on garden and planter care. You may visit between 3-4 gardens per day so there is lots of variety.

TIMING: April/May - End of August, weather dependant

What you will do:

Care for gardens as directed by your crew lead: garden clean ups, plant care (dead heading, pest & disease control, division, support) weeding, fertilization, soil amendments, light pruning and bed edging Prepare & top-dress beds (that means using a wheelbarrow) Plant shrubs, perennials and bulbs Keep your tools clean and sharp Great work to impress our clients Respect your leads, coworkers, clients, and work practices

What you need to have in order to do it:

Ability to take direction and then work relatively independently Good physical condition - healthy knees and back, some repetitive motions, able to lift and carry 50lbs of soil and push wheelbarrows of compost Curiosity about gardening Proper workwear for various types of weather Own vehicle, gloves, and face masks (you will be reimbursed for km, we know gas is expensive!)

About the Job:

Garden crews work in groups of 3-5 during clean-ups and then groups of 2-3 during regular maintenance. We work roughly 35 hrs/week and 7.25 hrs/day plus 30 minute unpaid lunch (approximately 8 am-3:45pm), Monday - Friday, weather dependent. During annual planting and spring/fall clean up season you may work longer or different hours. We work in gardens primarily located in Pump Hill, inner-city Calgary, Springbank, Bearspaw.
