A garbage collector's duties are to pick up trash and recycling and transport it to a landfill, sorting facility, or recycling center. In this position, you will pick up trash from residential and public buildings. You may pick up trash cans by hand or operate hydraulic components of the truck lift.
Duties
Garbage collectors have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
Collecting trash and recyclables from residential buildings, public buildings, and businesses, or individuals to dispose of it at a dump site or recycling facility. Inspecting containers for damage, leaking contents, and insect infestations before collecting. Collecting recyclable materials such as glass bottles, paper products, aluminum cans, and plastic containers for recycling or disposal. Loading and unloading truck with/without lifting mechanisms to lift and transport containers of garbage or recyclables from collection points to landfills or recycling centers Transporting recyclable materials to a recycling facility where materials are sorted and processed into new materials Cleaning garbage truck. General labour duties for the department
Qualifications
Grade 12 Physically fit Valid BC Drivers License (or working towards) Ability to work in all weather conditions
