To support younger learners in our community, we provide a Supplementary Learning Program on our campus offering structured communication and literacy activities for students in Grades 4-8.
We are now seeking a
G4-8 Communication Skills Instructor
to help students strengthen confidence, clarity, and foundational speaking skills.
Program Overview: Communication Skills (Grades 4-8)
This program helps students develop early communication abilities such as:
Expressing ideas clearly and confidently
Speaking in complete and organized sentences
Reading aloud with clarity and expression
Vocabulary growth and practical language use
Listening and responding respectfully in group settings
Participating confidently in class presentations
Age-appropriate storytelling and guided speaking activities
All sessions take place in a school-based classroom environment.
Position Summary
The instructor will guide students through structured communication activities designed to improve speaking confidence, clarity, and day-to-day communication skills in an age-appropriate and supportive setting.
Responsibilities
Teach communication and speaking skills using provided program materials
Facilitate interactive speaking tasks, small-group discussions, and guided presentations
Support students in improving clarity, expression, and organization
Encourage positive participation and confidence within the classroom
Monitor student engagement and report progress to school staff
Participate in occasional planning or training sessions
Qualifications
Required:
Strong proficiency in English communication suitable for working with younger students
Clear, patient, and engaging teaching style
University students or graduates in Education, English, Communications, Linguistics, Drama, or related fields are welcome to apply
Preferred:
Experience working with elementary or middle-school students
Familiarity with Ontario elementary language and communication expectations
Experience leading group activities (e.g., storytelling, drama, speaking activities)
Ability to support multilingual or international learners
