Funeral Director Intern
to join our dedicated team.
This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates of a BAO-approved Funeral Service Education program who are beginning their internship and seeking hands-on experience under the guidance of licensed Funeral Directors.
Role and Responsibilities
As a Funeral Director Intern, you will receive mentorship and training while contributing to the meaningful work of serving families. Your responsibilities will include:
Funeral Arrangements & Services
Assist in arranging and directing funeral, memorial, and visitation services.
Support families by presenting service options, explaining processes, and providing compassionate guidance.
Coordinate logistics including transportation, clergy/celebrant involvement, and ceremonial details.
Deceased Care
Class 1 Interns:
Participate in embalming, preparation, dressing, and casketing under supervision.
Class 2 Interns:
Assist with dressing, placement, and dignified handling of the deceased in accordance with scope of practice.
Documentation & Administration
Learn to complete and process vital documentation (death certificates, burial permits, contracts, pre-need arrangements).
Assist with administrative duties and regulatory compliance in line with the
Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002
.
Professional Growth & Training
Work closely with licensed Funeral Directors to develop skills in client care, professionalism, and service management.
Participate in mentorship and structured learning opportunities to prepare for BAO licensing examinations.
Requirements and Qualifications
Enrolled in or graduate of a
BAO-approved Funeral Service Education program
Eligible to obtain a
Funeral Director Intern Licence (Class 1 or Class 2)
with the BAO.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to support grieving families.
Professional demeanour with high standards of integrity, empathy, and discretion.
Excellent organizational skills, detail orientation, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Valid Ontario G Driver's Licence.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends when required.
