About the Position

Assistance with all aspects of financial aid for prospective and current students. This ranges from explanations of loans processes and policies for all provinces to grant funding for eligible programs, processing these loans and handling student emergencies. Supporting all awards and scholarship processes is also part of the responsibilities inherent to the role.

Position Details

  • Troubleshooting loan application and disbursement issues
  • Explaining account balances and internal practices/interactions of government funders
  • Providing information around consequences of various financial actions, providing financial literacy advice/presentations
  • Informing applicants about ineligibility for awards or loans or bursaries or their lack of success after application
  • Completion of numerous and varying forms confirming registration according to varying governmental deadlines and policies
  • Running and examining reports and cancelling loans for those who drop below full-time on occasion (typically done by another staff person)
  • Uploading session costs and dates into the provincial registry system
  • Making judgement calls about an individual\'s eligibility for emergency loans and explaining rationale to student in any case
  • Completing Payment Plans for those who qualify and following required process; taking unusual cases to manager
  • Running and reviewing reports for students eligible for provincial awards in compliance with government guidelines
  • Understanding internal awards processes, system, selection procedures, rescission and replacement process in order to test process and to explain processes to students
  • Understanding of the Foundational Learning Assistance (Grant) program system for upgrading and ESL, timelines and reporting requirements and the rules and implications around cancellation, quarterly reports for government
  • Ensuring that any external government and LC program updates that will impact our processes are taken into consideration
  • Working in conjunction with the rest of the team to ensure consistency of process.
Required Qualifications
  • University Undergraduate Degree in Education or Management/Business - combination of business/organizational training/skills plus social/humanities related degree would be ideal
  • It is essential that the incumbent have outstanding judgement, interpersonal, technical and troubleshooting skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Considerable experience in a post-secondary environment and/or with financial processes and customer service is highly desirable
Salary AUPE Class Level 9 Step 1 $48,573.28 per annum.
