Position Overview

The Fund Development Manager plays a key leadership role in advancing the mission of Laing House by overseeing and strengthening all fundraising activities. This position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive fund development strategy that ensures sustainable revenue growth to support Laing House programs.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Fund Development Manager provides strategic direction and leadership to the Fund Development Officer, senior volunteers, and the Board Development Committee. The role focuses on building and stewarding strong donor relationships, leading major gift fundraising, and ensuring excellence in donor engagement, reporting, and stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

Fund Development Strategy & Planning

Develop, implement, and evaluate Laing House's comprehensive fund development strategy to ensure sustainable revenue growth. Set annual fundraising goals in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board Development Committee. Provide leadership, guidance, and coaching to the Fund Development Officer and volunteers engaged in fundraising activities. Monitor fundraising trends, emerging opportunities, and best practices to strengthen Laing House's development efforts. Collaborate across departments to ensure fundraising strategies align with organizational priorities, programs, and strategic plan.
Major Gift Fundraising

Lead cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift donors and prospects, including individuals, corporations, and foundations. Work closely with senior volunteers and the Board Fund Development Committee, providing leadership, strategic direction, guidance, and support to achieve annual revenue goals. Work with senior volunteers and committee members in identifying, soliciting, cultivating, and stewarding major donors, while building strong and lasting relationships. Manage the pipeline of major donors and prospects, ensuring a strategic and personalized approach. Prepare compelling cases for support, proposals, and donor materials tailored to major gift opportunities. Lead the development and submission of major grant applications, in collaboration with organizational leadership, to align proposals with strategic priorities and program needs.
Donor Cultivation & Stewardship

Oversee the design and execution of a robust stewardship program that deepens donor engagement and inspires continued giving. Build and maintain long-term relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners. Support the Board and Executive Director in their donor engagement roles by preparing briefings, talking points, and stewardship strategies. Ensure donor communications (reports, updates, recognition) demonstrate transparency, accountability, and impact.
Event Fundraising

Provide strategic oversight for all fundraising initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and revenue goals. Guide and support signature events such as the Masquerade Ball, with a focus on donor engagement, sponsor stewardship, and long-term event sustainability. Support third-party fundraising initiatives and community engagement activities as needed.
Administrative & Financial Oversight

Supervise gift processing, database management, and donor reporting carried out by the Fund Development Officer to ensure accuracy and compliance. Develop and manage the fund development budget, including revenue forecasting and expense tracking. Provide timely fundraising reports and progress updates to the Executive Director, Board, and Finance Committee. Ensure all fundraising activities comply with CRA regulations, ethical standards, and Laing House policies. Support organizational audits and ensure accurate fundraising documentation.
Qualifications & Key Competencies

Experience:

Minimum 5 years fundraising experience with midlevel and major gift fundraising and 2 years in a management role. With proven leadership and team development skills. Experience with developing and implementing annual fundraising and stewardship plan. Experience working for an organization that supports youth and young adults with lived experience of mental health challenges is a strong asset. Demonstrated experience working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Including proposal writing and donor centric communications Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities; detail-oriented and resourceful. Technologically proficient, with comfort using Raiser's Edge, Microsoft 365, SharePoint. Collaborative team player with a positive attitude, adaptability, and a proactive approach to tasks. Aligned with Laing House's mission and values, and committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
Other Requirements: Satisfactory criminal record check, including vulnerable sector search and child abuse register check.
