The French Teacher will design, deliver, and assess beginner French language training as part of the EmployESBC initiative, supporting English-speaking Black Quebecers and newcomers to become more competitive in Quebec's job market. This role requires a dynamic educator who can engage adult and youth learners at varied proficiency levels, foster a positive classroom environment, and adapt curriculum to individual learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum and Lesson Planning
o Develop engaging lesson plans for Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 cohorts, aligned with project objectives and employment-focused language outcomes.
o Incorporate contextual learning relevant to job search, workplace communication, and daily life integration.
Instruction and Facilitation
o Deliver in-person and/or virtual French language classes in interactive group sessions, using varied teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles.
o Employ digital tools and exercises to supplement core instruction and encourage self-driven learning.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring
o Administer placement tests, regular assessments, and end-of-session evaluations to measure participant progress.
o Provide individualized feedback, document learning outcomes, and recommend further learning supports where needed.
Class Engagement and Support
o Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and motivating learning environment that is sensitive to the needs of diverse, marginalized, and newcomer populations.
o Support wrap-around services by collaborating with other staff on childcare and technology needs, ensuring barriers to participation are minimized.
Reporting and Collaboration
o Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and progress records for all participants.
o Prepare summary reports on class progress and outcomes for project administrators.
o Attend team meetings and participate in ongoing professional development and curriculum reviews.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Proven experience teaching French as a second language, preferably to adults, youth, or newcomer populations.
Bachelor's degree in education, linguistics, languages, or a related field; FSL certification or equivalent is a strong asset.
Ability to design curriculum and adapt teaching to multi-level classes.
High proficiency in both French and English (spoken and written).
Cultural sensitivity and experience working with Black, equity-deserving, and newcomer communities.
Strong organizational, communication, and digital literacy skills.
Flexibility to teach evenings, weekends, or online as needed.
